The one thing that irritates me about this show is that they don't explain how these people obtain all the coupons they get. That's the first thing I wondered was how on earth someone got that many coupon inserts from the Sunday papers. You'd think they'd want to help others by revealing their source. Apparently it's not that difficult to find out because I did it! I love Google!

One girl (the deer hunting family) said she gets 4 sunday papers each week, and 1 wednesday paper each week. Most food stores advertize on Wedneday and most inserts are in Sunday. I have seen others say once folks in town figure out they do the food bank donations, they drop off flyers at their house. Others have shown themselves and small children digging thru the town dump recycle bin screaming about how this peice of paper is worth 10c and folks just throw it away. One woman drove all over town looking into dumpsters from condo complexes. Others are so organized they have a closet full separated by date, and newspaper.

I love the idea, but I am not that organized. I simply cant remember if my prescription is ready to be picked up, let alone which store has butter on sale. plus I dont tend to shop the middle isles. I Shop the outside isles. Milk, juice, cheese, fruit and veg. its hard to find coupons for those items. I can find TONS for bladder control pads, or hair dye, but not many for eggs.

Me, too, Dej. The majority of coupons I use are for non-food items. If I can find good ones for frozen foods that I'll eat I'll use them.

One thing I've done is contact the company that produces the foods I like. Cascadian Farms makes great organic french fries, tater tots and hash browns. I usually only get the french fries but they are excellent. But I've never seen any coupons for them so I sent them a short email asking if they could send me some.

I would never go into a dumpster to get coupons! That is extreme no matter what kind of money you'd be saving. I'll spend $5.00 a month for them to be sent to me if it'll save me $40 off my grocery bill and stock me up with laundry detergent for a year!

ok, im hooked! I got a $5 coupon for the pain patch and Rite Aid had it on sale for $5. so, its FREE! milk of mag was on sale for $3 and I had a coupon for $1 which tripled so its FREE! Advil on sale for the same deal, my coupon made it FREE! I have recently signed up for several coupon clubs and have become a woman obsessed.

I am making a vow to only buy items that we use! like laundry detergent, toilet paper, creams, shampoos and yogurts. I must admit, its quite a rush. I can see why folks go over board.

I agree! I should be getting the coupons I ordered today. I'm excited to be able to save some "real" money.

I'd never buy 60 bottles of hot sauce like some of these extreme couponers do......where on earth would I put it all.....but if I could stock up on things I'd really use I'd absolutely do it. It's fun! And I have time to do it! Yea!!

I have a niece who has a very small 2 bedroom apartment that just recently started this. She is going to change her small kitchen pantry into a coupon file and her spare bedroom into a pantry!!!! That's just to much.

Default Hostage to coupling!

My sister has me and our other sisters couponing. She even set us a coupon organizer with baseball cars insert *edit* Well, we are saving and it has been worth the little bit of time we had to commit. Checkout *edit*, this site organizes states, manufacture coupons and stores for you. It even calculates your savings so that you can decide for yourself whether it's worth your time. I enjoy it, it has become a challenge between us sisters. If you can buy out time, I totally recommend it. Who can't use a little cash back these days?

So I watched several segments of this show on TLC last night (woohoo! Saturday night at Kitty's house! ) and really had to wonder about this.

One lady got lots of soda, candy bars, frozen pizza, ramen noodle things and cake/cookie mixes. Now she had to either buy additional Sunday papers or buy these coupons from a coupon clipping site. Buying from the site is much cheaper as you only have to buy what you actually need. That being said......who on earth needs 200 containers of ramen noodles? Or fifty cake mixes? Even if they got the noodles for "free" they had to pay for the coupons. It's not much but I'd much rather have that $3 in my wallet than 200 containers of high sodium ramen noodles. The candy bars aren't technically "free" either because they're spending 5 cents for each coupon. Yes, it's much cheaper than paying full price but.....a candy bar? I just don't see this as coming out ahead. I guess if it came down to a candy bar or nothing I'd choose the candy bar.....I just don't understand the big excitement about feeding yourself or your family junk.

Same for OTC meds. Who needs 112 bottles of nightime sleep medicine? Even if those coupons cost 5 cents each that's $5.60! Now I will say she did get the medicine at a negative price which netted her $51.00 in the end so that was worth it. I guess I could donate the meds or something. She spent $5.60 to make $45.40. Okay, that's worth it. If your grocery store will allow you to make money off a coupon it's worth the effort.

I think if I had both boys and a DH at home to feed I would tackle this project more enthusiastically. Those three together could eat as much in a day as I consume in an entire week by myself. I'll continue to use coupons on whatever I can but I won't buy stuff I can't or won't use just because it's free....unless I can donate it.

I had some issues in that I thought I wouldnt be able to find coupns that would fit MY needs. I only eat fresh, not pre processed, uggy foods. So far Im doing great! I have gotten butter coupons, yogurt coupons, milk coupons, veggie coupons, cheese coupons, fresh chicken coupons, and even bags of salad coupons! whoooo! I have tons of cleaning coupons and I have found that mixing the store sales, with double coupons and rebates, im cleaning up! I have cut my grocery bill in half. I never thought of getting my cleaning stuff at Target or RiteAid, or my lotion and deodarant at Rite aid, but im cleaning up on great prices, rebates, and bucks up points.

I just sat with my newly subscribed for Sunday paper, and cut out my coupons, comparing them to the store ads for Target, rite aid, walgreen, and the like. So far i am going to get all the things I would normally buy, just at a deep discount. its work, and I have to be organized, but I am getting what I want, and use, not 40 bottles of hot sauce.

Why would anyone eat that stuff? ick! ramen noodles are ok for a college kid in a dorm who needs instant eats, but grown women know better.

Dej, where are you finding coupons for things like milk, butter, cheese and chicken? I can find the occasional coupon for Tyson chicken but I need to eat the organic, non-antibiotic and hormone chicken. I usually get the Greenwise dairy products at Publix but never have a coupon for them. Same with yogurt. Stoneyfield doesn't seem to offer too many coupons, either. Sometimes I'll get the organic spinach from the produce section but the fruit....apples and pears.....are just too high. I will get organic blueberries because items like those (thin skinned fruit) absorbs so much pesticide. Cleaning products seem to be the only thing I can really save $$ on.
