I don't want to see any more advertisements for Mothers day cards, sweet necklaces, gifts, special dinners or anything. I just want to go to bed and wake up on Monday. My DH attitude about Mothers Day is that I'm not his Mom (but he doesn't give HIS Mom anything either) and our 2 daughters either don't have the money or just forget. I know they love me dearly but they took after their Dads gift giving attitude which is 'if I don't give anything they won't be obligated to give me anything back'

You know, I have mixed feelings about Mothers Day. I hesitate to say anything usually, because how can you not like a day devoted to mothers?
Of course, it has become another commercial holiday...buy her something! But it's a really tough day for those of us who miss our moms, those who wanted to be moms and were unable, those with abusive moms, those whose children have alienated themselves, and so on. After 11+ years, I still try to avoid church on Mothers Day because I miss my mom so much. Yes, I know, I should cherish the memories, and I do, but it's still a hard day. I got a Mothers Day promotion email from Ancestry.com (a website I like, by the way) which said: "introduce your mother to her ancestors." Yeah, well, my mother was introduced to her ancestors eleven years ago, thank you very much. Ow.

I think we have far too many occasions that guilt folks into paying attention to those we should have been holding hands with all year.
My own mom will hold you hostage about her gift. Demanding to know that the one you got her is better than the one I got MIL. Its a horrible time for me, but I can clearly understand why doydie just wants to hide till its over. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Doydie, take a flower to your Mom. She will know it and it may make you feel better.

I found out one of the reasons I have felt so down this week is I am not taking all my meds! On Saturday night I fill up my pill keepers for the next week and I inadvertently left out one of my B/P meds. Also my Tenormin is a tiny pill and like my Ritalin pills, sometimes they don't fall into my hand when I dump them out. So when I had this epiphany thought today of "Oh no, I don't think I have been taking this pill all week". I also found out I didn't take one of the other B/P pills. I take 4. I'm glad I didn't have a cuff at home. I don't think I want to know how high it was. I just know my headaches have been horrific this week. I had just thought it was because of all the Mothers day hype. And some of it still may be. But I sure will make sure my Tenormin falls out into my hand tomorrow.

Wow, Doydie! I have been on Tenormin (Atenolol) since Mar 1998. I only take 25mg once a day for heart palpitation control. If I miss one pill, I feel like I have an asthma attack coming on. Breathing is uncomfortable and the palpitations start up.

I'm sorry Doydie but I do agree with your hubby. My husband is not my mother and I am not his father come Father's day, so we do not celebrate those days between us.
My own mother died over 30 years ago and sadly my dad followed her a few short years later so come Mother's day or Father's day, I always feel sad and start missing them all over again. I do however have the most wonderful daughter and up until the last 6 months, we had lived in different states for many years. Recently we moved to the same city and are now treasuring the time we regularly spend together. This year will be the best Mother's Day I've had for 15 years .... not because of anything money can buy, but because we will be together as a family.

I have no idea what to get my mom, and she's been in a mood lately and wont tell me what she wants. (she had a head injury 50+yrs ago, and lately we've been noticing a few things about her that are...weird. Reminding me of my dad's mom when she first started forgetting things) I may have to just take her out to eat tomorrow or saturday. (we never go out on Mother's day. Everyone and their mothers do that and you cant get a table anywhere)
I may just get up early tomorrow and see if she wants to go to breakfast with me, since the breakfast restaurant might not be as busy tomorrow as it would be on sunday. I'm missing my grandma a lot this year. I may see if my boyfriend wants to go down to the cemetery with me on sunday with some mother's day flowers for my paternal grandma (and grandpa, and my uncles, since I'll be there anyways and they're all in a crowd together down there)

In the past my mom has always declined the need for gifts or a big fuss. However this year, as she slips away into her last stages of Alzheimer's, and because my sister shared a few things with me that do make her happy, I sent a box with multiple items in it. She may not even realize who it is from --
but if she gets one drop of joy . . . I so miss my mom, and I regret the inability to travel back home to see her . . .
