I need a new printer. The one I have is old and uses expensive ink. I haven't used it in years.
I want to be able to print coupons. Is there a good, inexpensive printer that uses inexpensive ink? I remember having to buy new ink cartridges so many times I could have bought a new printer over and over again! ![]() I am not tech savvy nor do I know alot about computers/printers. My DS will be the one installing it for me if I get one. I know my friends here are smart and know alot more about these items than I do. Can ya'll help me? ![]()

My son (who services computers and peripherals for a living) says that it's a Catch-22. There is no such thing as an inexpensive printer that's good on ink. (It's a vast conspiracy). I have the same frustration. I like my printer/copier/scanner/fax combo, but it sure isn't cheap on ink. I do some tricks to save, such as doing virtually all printing in "draft" mode.

many printers do "economical" mode and in gray scale, and that is how we save on ink. You can save a bundle that way.
No one cares about coupon perfection...just so the bar code is readable. I want a good scanner and fax...and you can get a good HP for about 100 bucks with all that. You don't need the other bells and whistles now..computer bit, ultra photo bit...etc. The economical printing is what we use most and find most useful. Check Tiger direct and Overstock.com for deals, and also WalMart. WalMart has surprisingly low prices...probably connected to Sam's inventory. Around here we get our printers at Costco or Sam's Club. I recall paying 30 bucks for a simple Lexmark once (no scanner/fax.).

kodak just made a new one that works on very little ink, and is economical. I have a huge HP that I need to knock back to grayscale for all the coupons I print, and the ink costs a fortune.

That's my biggest concern....the cost of the ink. It's not going to be cost-effective for me to print coupons if any savings I'm going to see will just go for printer ink.
I won't be printing anything else. Just coupons. I have a bunch of reams of white copy paper so paper won't be an issue for a while. Once I decide on a brand I'm going to check out ebay first. I have a Canon printer that also has a scanner but the ink cartridges are so expensive.

I have an HP. My first printer was an HP, the next a Lexmark which was not user friendly at all. So i am back to the HP and as expected, I love it. I bought it knowing the ink was expensive. When Mom was alive I printed out pictures for her but she helped out with the paper and ink cost. Now I just use it for coupons, proof of bill pay, etc and I use the economy gray. One thing to do to cut down on cost if you just use one like I do is to buy cheap paper. I made the mistake of buying pretty thick paper

I am happy to do the research online for you and match the correct printer to your needs. I would need to talk with you first to determine just how you and your family use the printer and what functions are necessary. In addition, I have a resource for ink I've used for 3 years now and the ink cartridges at Best Buy or Staples that would cost $52.00 I receive for $16.95 and shipping is free. The quality of the product and customer service are outstanding. Let me know if I may be of assistance to you on this. I have the time to assist you and I expect, nor would I receive, anything for referring you to my resource. Just let me know.

Thank you, Craig! I tried to research current ones but I know so little about them to begin with the information I found didn't really mean much to me.
![]() The only thing I'll be using this printer for is to print coupons. I don't need a scanner or a fax or even color. Just want to print basic black and white. Your printer ink source sounds amazing. That's my biggest concern.....the cost of the ink.....because I will have to consider that cost in my determination of whether it's worth it for me. Any knowledge you have about this that you'd like to share will be greatly appreciated! ![]()

Hi Kitty,
Give me a little time and I should be getting back with you today or tomorrow morning at the latest. Even though your use is very minimal the cost between a bare bones and questionable quality and one that does color and a few other things may not be any difference in price. But, a better value in quality and longevity. I will research and let you decide what you think is in your best interest.
