Default Makeup & MS

So I was going through my makeup drawer in my bathroom today and threw out a bunch of old, used makeup that I wasn't sure how old it was.

I used to wear makeup every day. Whether I was going anywhere or not. I just felt strange if I didn't have it on.

Now, I only wear makeup if I'm going somewhere and then it's not much. Usually just mascara and lip gloss. It just depends on where I'm going. I've gotten to where I wear it less and less often.

Any other ladies here find that it's just not worth the hassle anymore?

If I'm going out, people coming over, etc. I use powder stuff instead of foundation, very natural color eye shadow, my lipstick is gone quickly it seems. I find a good mascara is essential. Like that old Clairol ad, I wan people to ponder "Does she or doesn't she", Not think "Oh, make-up!!"

I'm not a makeup person. I used to use it when I was about 14 or 15, but it was too much of a pain to put it on before going to school in the morning. I liked to sleep in, so I quit wearing it in high school.

Last time I tried wearing makeup, I ended up with an allergic reaction to something in the makeup. (it was a high quality makeup too) Tried it again with a different brand a few other times, and got allergic reactions then too...so now I'm scared to use any of it for fear that I'll be allergic

Sure saves me a ton of money. I dont even paint my nails. I'm more about earrings and necklaces than putting makeup on my skin. I havent worn any of my jewelry for a long time either. I need to get a new jewelry box. Gave my old box to my niece because it was too big for my room, and havent replaced it yet. (gonna get one that hangs on the wall)

I never wore much make-up, and wear even less now. I always thought I looked like a Halloween freak when I was wearing it anyway. All I really use is mascara, brown, because my eyelashes are blonde and unless I wear mascara I look like I don't have eyelashes.

I usually only wear brow pencil (not much brow hair left) and mascara; I perspire so much when moving even slightly that I sweat any powder/foundation off...

Brow pencil.....that's the other thing I use when I go out. My brows are so light - eyelashes are, too - that they're virtually invisible unless I use something on them.

Since I've gotten older my vision has gotten worse. I don't even think it has anything to do with MS, either. I think it's just age and my eye doctor sort of confirmed it. I'm afraid I'll look like I tried to put on makeup without a mirror......so I just use the essentials and make sure to check it really well before leaving the house!

In a way it's sort of liberating. I honestly don't care if I'm not wearing a "full face" anymore. It feels lighter, I feel better and my skin is probably happier, too!

**raises hand*** me.

I used to look very nice each day. I had the minimal look, but it took some work to make it look like I didnt try. I have always had great skin, and took good care of it, but once MS hit my skin looked pasty and I needed more and more make up. Since my dx...nope, cant be bothered. dont swipe mascara anymore, and my lipstick turned into chapstick. That is about as fancy as I get.

About six months ago I was going thru my make up and threw away some expensive stuff. I worked hard to get the best, and there it sat, collecting dust. My mascara had become one giant clump in the bottle and my lip stick had turned colors. ick!

so, nivea cream or oil of olay at night, and a swipe of mositue lip balm is my make up now.

I still use it almost everyday. If there is a day when I get to stay in then of course I do not bother. I use foundation (splotchy complexion), concealer ( really need to put this all over my face but limit it to under eye and a few age spots), blush, mascara, eye shadow, and powder.

One of my favorite memories is a hairdresser saying to an older woman (his long time customer) as he handed her a washcloth "Wash your face, you look like a clown" She did, we're talking BLUE eye shadow, blush-red cheek spots.

I gave up on makeup about 30 years ago. Before that I never was very good at applying it and limited it to eyebrow pencil, lipstick, and sometimes mascara.

Nowadays my lips look fairly pale, and I use a slightly colored lip balm. That's all.

If people don't like the way I look, too bad. I wash my face twice a day.

I've noticed that fewer women wear makeup these days. Maybe it's going out of style. Good riddance! I can't think why women have been expected to paint up our faces while men aren't. They're the ones with the 5 o'clock shadow problem...

What's WRONG with our faces as they are?

OK, I'll get off the soapbox but it makes me mad when I think of how super-costly makeup is--and how many skin and even eye problems people can have as a result of using it.

My face is numb, and makeup wasn't staying in place on my face anyway. I'd put on lipstick and eyebrow pencil, and look in the mirror hours later and find it had moved around on my face.

As for jewelry, I haven't worn it in years either. It's too heavy, and if a clasp comes undone or an earring falls off, I wouldn't feel it--numbness again. I've given most of it away--kept a few pieces I'm sentimentally attached to.
