Default Speeding tickets

Anyone with a police officer in the family? I was wondering why when I get pulled over for speeding they touch the back of my car? First time it happened I thought it was a guy with OCD or something but have noticed it since then also they always touch the tail light area as they approach.

Love police officers btw just curious.

From what I understand, they are putting their prints on the car. That way, in case they get shot and the driver flees, there's evidence putting the two parties together.

I've never noticed cops doing it but I've read about somewhere.

How many speeding tickets do you get anyway?? Never been pulled over. Maybe they can tell how fast you were going by the temp? Or if it is really hot maybe you have a body in there decomposing?? Or a pizza oven to deliver pizzas?

My son thought it might be to see if the engine is still idling so they know that is safe to approach the car. Otherwise you could throw it into reverse and back over them.

I emailed my son with this question. Here is his response:

"Good question. Some officers do it to leave fingerprints. Others, like myself, do it to make sure the trunk is closed so no one jumps out and shoots me. But the fingerprints one is the main one.

The "car idling" one is no good. We look for brake lights if we think the drivers will flee. You gotta press the brake to put the car back in drive."

Wiz, he asked the same question!!

Thanks Kitty, I thought that was a possibility.

Never ya'll mind how many times I get pulled over for speeding but suffice to say it was easier to get warnings when I was younger and cuter.
