All over the local news tonight. They killed many animals and saved a few and transfered them to the local zoo. They had pictures of course..

I really feel sorry that some of the animals were killed but I understand the reasoning. It was dark, late at night. Zoo people were using tranquilizer guns but after being hit, the animals were still charging. What choice do we humans have? I know it's not the animals fault but we do have to protect ourselves. They shouldn't have been allowed there in the first place.

Depending on the size of the animal, a tranquilizer dart can take SEVERAL minutes to work. That's why they ended up having to shoot some of the animals.
Nearly 10yrs ago, there was a mountain lion captured about half a mile from my old house. My old neighbors told me that they'd been hearing weird noises coming from the creek that runs behind that house, and one neighbor said her dog was acting weird the day the cat was caught. One afternoon someone saw the mountain lion walking around in the park on the other side of the busy street that was several houses down from my old house. The Sheriff's office was about 1000 feet from where they caught the cat. (well, shot it) They'd called the zoo and a vet went out there with a tranquilizer gun and tranquilized it, but they said it took over 5 minutes for the tranquilizer to take effect, and it lunged at a deputy while they were waiting, which is why it got shot. The mountain lion lived, and the local zoo has it on display. I've seen it. It's about as big as my dog was. (probably bigger now, it was still a young cat when it was caught) Where I live now (4 miles to the north of that house) I'm in an area that still has a lot of wildlife. I've seen one bobcat. (there's more feral housecats here than bobcats tho) There's a herd of about 13 deer that live in the trees behind my house, and I wont be surprised to see a mountain lion out there someday eating venison in the field. I'm watching some tv shows on The Animal Planet channel right now about cat hoarders. There are some nutty people out there who dont just collect cats, they collect REALLY BIG CATS!. I just saw an episode about some lady who had 24 (well, 25) tigers on a poorly built preserve. In '99 (I think) one of the cats escaped and was killed outside of the preserve. Woman insisted it wasnt her tiger and wouldnt help them catch the tiger. Police figured out it was her cat. The show said she eventually got all her tigers taken away after one of them attacked the guy that worked for her taking care of the cats. (they were taken to a cat refuge in Texas) I thought it was bad that some lady here in Omaha had over 140 (little) cats removed from her house about 15yrs ago. It's scary that there's people out there who collect bigger cats. I dont understand hoarders.
