This January my hubby wants to visit some friends who winter in Jamaica. They live in a huge and glorious family home, and when we visit we stay in one of their guest suits. But in Jamaica, residents don't find their climate to be very hot, so having AC is not a given, even in a new, huge, and snazzy home like this one.

The last time we visited (the first time for me), the heat really hit me hard. Now he wants to go back. He told me that we can stay in a proper Americanized resort with AC this year, but I was so miserable last time we went that I just can't imagine going back, not to mention the fact that I am now 20 pounds heavier, and I am now taking a drug that warns about heat sensitivity.

The last time we went, the only AC that was available was in our rented car, and yes, I do admit sneaking out to the car in the middle of the night just to get some relief.

I'd be really angry with myself if I do go and then get sick from the heat.

Advice?

I thought you and DH split?? If not you should, if he wants to take you to a place he knows is not good for you.. Just kidding..

Nope, hubby and I are still stuck together like glue. I brought up the subject of Jamaica last night and we agreed that he should go alone. I guess he had talked about staying at a resort because he didn’t want me to feel badly about being left home alone. But I’d feel even worse if I went with him and ended up spending the whole vacation in our hotel room because of heat sensitivity. I’ll be much better off, and much happier at home.

It’s not like we won’t get away together at all this winter. We leave for the holidays in Florida next week, and we won’t be back until new years. Also we usually take a ski trip in late ski season out west. I might bail out on that one too if I don’t feel well. I am really quite OK alone. I can turn the television up as loud as I want, and leave it on all night long. And I’ll get to go to the bathroom without closing the bathroom door. It’ll be great.

If he goes without you it will be more of a reminder to them that although you love them that you can't tolerate the heat and humidity.

I think you'll enjoy the time at home alone!

We never took separate vacations but the more I hear of it the more I think I (at least) would have loved it!!
