Default Is this what I should expect as I get older?

I have been to several funerals lately. It seems it's more and more. My husband has been a pall bearer now twice in 13 months. I look at him with pride when I see him doing something that he really doesn't want to do but does it anyway because he feels like it is a position of honor. He looked so tall, shrinking a little bit and all grey hair - what hair there is now! I was still proud

We have been to 8 funerals in this last year. From relatives to friends. I guess since we are in our 50s we are going to start seeing the herd thin out. My mom is 75 now and in bad health. His mom is 82 and in ok health. His aunt woke up one morning, keeled over and was gone before they could say "whats wrong?" she had a brain aneurysm let go and it took only moments for her to be in a coma. After the machines were unplugged it took all day for her to leave, but we are seeing more and more slide down that hill.

I have friends that are in their 30s that look awful! They smoke, drink, party, and their lives are so stressful. They look 60! I have friends who are 60 that dont smoke, drink and have an easy life and they look 40. Out of my graduating class of 200 there are only 50 something of them left. Car accidents, hunting accidents, drug over doses, diseases...3/4 gone!

I dont mind living to be old if I can be active and participate in my own life.

Lots more funerals as we get older. Kind of scary and some of these people are really not that old and die unexpectedly seemingly without a cause. Or they die due to a car accident. Sick of funerals.

I know alot of 30 and 40 somethings that look like they are on their last leg. My mom just turned 80 and the most serious thing healthwise was gall stones. It seems like most of the popular girls from high school look the worse and more aged than they should. If sitting on my couch watching reality shows delays aging and keeps me better off healthwise, I'll watch them.

I just am unable to attend funerals anymore, but send flowers and my sympathies.

It seems like I had more friends and relatives dying when I was in my 30s & 40s than now.

My mother in law once told me that as we age, we notice an increase in death around us....she likened it to "leaves falling off a tree"

I guess at some point we hit the autumn stage of our lives.

Then she'd say "Just be glad you are not in the Obits today"
