We have the Verizon Secure Mi-fi 3G Hotspot. We got a deal on it just before their 4G was coming out. We use it here and take it with us when we travel. Its smaller than a playing card and about a quarter of a inch thick. It can power 4 or 5 gadgets. We have only used our laptops w it.

It's great to be able to take it w us. I don't know the monthly rate as that is paid by SO. I don't think we ever go over any ceiling as he is in his office at work all day.

We both are anti-cable and that is all we can get here (Comcast). No DSL in our little corner of this big City.

They have another one that is smaller and plugs into your computer. They only work one device. They may be cheaper.

See them here:

Edited to add that SO says it is $35 a month plus fees bring it to $40 for our older model w 3G.
