I thought I'd better start a new thread about Internet service since my other thread was titled HDTV antenna.

I'm probably going to change Inernet providers once I cut the cable TV. Charter's going to want to gouge me I know.

What Internet provider is a good one when it's the only service you're getting from that provider? With Charter I know I get a break in the price since I "bundle" TV, phone and Internet. I just want Internet.....and a reliable Internet......but I'm afraid I'm going to have to pay a premium to get good service.

Any suggestions?

I didn't want to make you feel all alone! WOW is my internet provider but it is bundled with my phone. I did have the cable on it but I have Directv. I pay about $60 for the phone and internet. It's high speed and the phone has all the bells and whistles.

My advice would be worthless, since I'm not exactly in your neck of the woods! I was on dial-up for years, but recently FairPoint upgraded their system so that DSL is available out here in the sticks. I bundled my phone (yes, it's a land line) with my internet through FairPoint in January, and I haven't had ANY problems, not even two minutes. So far.

Hope you get some input from somebody in your area--I know they're all inside with their computers, because it's too hot down there to be outside.

What are your options where you live? It is so regional. We only have choices here of Comcast (cable) or Verizon (dsl and Fios). I think you can also get satellite internet, but I understand that is very pricey.

By me, we only get Comcast or ATT. I would NEVER use comcast again even if it was free!!! They provide the worst service and rape you on the prices!! We had the bundle package, and it was horrible!! Price was over 100.00, and tv went out more than it was working!! We just did internet with them for awhile and we constantly were loosing connection. URGGGH!!

I have AT&T/DSL/internet/phone service and it's cheaper and more reliable than TimeWarner, I think. I have TimeWarner for just cable/TV and they are gouging me because I don't bundle..

I don't get it, you mean, just with an antenna, you could stop cable TV???

I can only get Comcast or buy a expensive dish from DirecTV. we live in the boonies, and choices cannot be had out here.

You might have to google or look in the yellow pages for internet providers in your area.
Once you find out who is in your area , then look them up to find out more about services & costs...

In Oregon we have
Verizon/Frontier - what we use for phone & dsl, seems OK but a lil slower now that school is out.
Comcast
Quest -Centurylink??- I guess it's out here, we get the commercials for it..
Satellite or dish , but I haven't checked those out at all.

then there are some local providers that somehow also use the Verizon/Frontier connections but I don't think the costs would be lower using a second party provider

Kitty, I'll repeat my response to your other thread: "My new internet service is Verizon MiFi. The unit costs $50 to purchase and is $50 a month for the service. It is 4G capable but because I live just outside that range I only get 3G. It is still WAY better than Hughesnet satellite.

It is portable; the unit is about the size of a deck of cards and can run on batteries. It does have data limits, however. The $50 a month plan gets you 5GB for 30 days. I've only had it for one 1-monthe cycle and used about 4.5 GB. You have to keep track."

To see their coverage area, Google verizon coverage map. On the 4G map, it looks like Georgia is solidly covered. Dejibo, depending on your actual location it looks like you might get 3G, which is still better than anyone's satellite.

BTW, Dej, Hughesnet satellite installation is usually free, and it was costing me (can't remember exactly) between $75 and $82 a month. Requires a 2 year contract.
