Default Amtrak vs flying

I actually got a little further in the Amtrak site. We could go from Chicago to Boston for a decent price. It's about a 6 hour drive to Chicago and we would have to have a long term very secure parking. Then we would have to rent a car in Boston, try to drive out of Boston and go up to where we want to go in Maine. It's about a 24 hour train trip in a little room. 2 people cramped in a little room. My Cpap, and sound machine would have to hooked up and reach to where I am sleeping. We would have good meals, I hope.

Or we could drive to Cincinatti where my brother lives. He could drive us tot he airport in his or our car and we would have about a 6 hour trip according to where a layover is. Our car is secure, we have no meal except what we have in the airport. We could fly to Portland so we are a little further in our trip. The price really isn't that much different when you consider baggage fees but the trip is so much shorter. Portland is smaller than Boston. I suppose a car rental place is in the Portland airport.

Oh, what to do

I still have out-laws in Cincinnati. One told me most of Greater Cin airport has been closed, and I think that Delta doesn't even fly out of there any more. So be sure the airline you want does go into CVG.

Do you know the difference between in-laws and out-laws? Out-laws are wanted.

I have to make a list to get a better comparison for things like this.

Another thing might be the time factor.
A flight might be faster vs a slow train ride if many stops along the way.

I will have to ask my brother if the airport is open. And yes they are very wanted, by me!!!! 5-6 hours of air time is better than 22 hours of train. The one I was looking at boarded at 9:30 PM. I'm not sure if I would be ready to go directly to sleep and would be tired the next day. I don't want to start out tired.

Look into prices into the Manchester NH airport. its an international airport so the prices are normally better, and its quite close to Portland. I airport shop when I get plane tickets. sometimes it can shave hundreds off the price.

Beautiful area up here. you are going to love it.

Good point Dej. My niece flew here from Columbus. She said it was much cheaper than flying out of Cinti.

If you do decide on doing Amtrak, there's a train that goes to Portland...
