Default My last bag of popcorn, such sadness

I guess I am in the mood for posting tonight. I have this addiction to microwave or really any kind of popcorn. And the scales and my triglycerides show it. So I told my husband after I finish off my last bag of popcorn that I had to start eating more fruits and veggies for snacks. So I enjoyed my last bad tonight. So I have to go to the store tomorrow and stock up on some good stuff.

Walmart and Sam's Club offer different but excellent bags of dried fruit and nuts, a trail mix kind of thing. They both have a tropical flavor.

Is air-popped plain popcorn bad for our health?

Thumbs up

As far as I know popcorn is good for you. It's just that you can't have a lot of butter and other stuff on it. And watch how much of it you eat.

Interesting site:

Maybe you could just get the "light popcorn" they make for people that are trying to be more careful about what they are eating, you could even season it yourself with things you like that are not unhealthy, I spray mine with I Can't Believe its Not Butter, no calories, no guilt, and it's delicious. At least you're not engaged in a habit that is harming you like smoking or drinking.

Doydie, I pop my own in brown paper bags (the lunch bag size). I just take 1/3 cup of plain popcorn, 1 tablespoon vegetable oil and a little salt (optional) and put in a lunch sized paper bag. Fold the top over by about 2 inches and staple (yes, it's okay to put it in the microwave). I nuke mine about 1 minute and 18 seconds but you sort of have to test it out the first couple of times to get the time right for your particular microwave's strength. I like to spritz mine with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter or some other spray that has no calories/fat. It's really very good and so much less expensive than pre-packaged microwave popcorn. Much better for you, too.

I really need to get used to eating more fruits and veggies. I really don't eat enough of them. There are a lot of things I need to do to make changes in my diet.

I would just switch to air popped popcorn, even with herbs/spices for the topper. After all, the benefit of the fiber in popcorn is huge. Of course, adding in more fruits & veggies is still something to do. Exercise is also very beneficial to cholesterol values - do what you can, as you can

Giving up the chronic popcorn ingestion may just have extra benefits and save your life!

People who inhale regularly, popcorn fumes from microwaves are turning up with "popcorn lung"... a potentially fatal disease of lung fibrosis.

It sounds like a urban legend, but it IS real.
