Without actually knowing this person Sally dated, I am very willing to guess that one of his parents was not raised as a Jew and I will also venture to guess that he did not continue with the vast and wonderful tradition of his ancestors. A family like his is an anomaly, not the rule. |

Sorry Cyn, didn't mean to offend. It was true though and I thought that some Jewish families put up a tree and have presents and call it a Hanakah(sp) tree?

I work long hours and on Christmas Eve. I also work the day after Christmas.
![]() My sister is having knee replacement surgery next Tuesday so we don't know what or when we'll have for a celebration on that side of the family. We'll probably have a nice Christmas Eve dinner here with DH, sons and my youngest son's girlfriend (I love her). DH's side of the family usually has a dinner but if we go DH will drink too much so we might pass on that. ![]()

The only families I know that put up a xmas tree are those with one adult parent that grew up with that tradition because one was of a xtian religion. It is not the norm for a Jewish family to have a tree or call it a hannukah bush, etc. We don't exchange gifts with each other, my kids never believed in Santa Claus. We had our own traditions, our own celebrations. All are rich in joy and create lasting great memories. When it comes to December 25th, we go to a Chinese restaurant because it is one of the few restaurants open and because the day is long and boring, a good movie is always nice. One year, DH and I went skiing. The slopes were basically empty until the afternoon when we saw a lot of people there with their new equipment. Another xmas eve, we had a potluck dinner with our Muslim friends and discussed our mutual non-celebration. One of these days, I want to go to Hawaii and sit on the beach...that is actually just a hotel room overlooking the beach because of not being able to negotiate the sand. |

When I was working I loved to work on Christmas Day. Don't get me wrong, I never volunteered but when my name came up I did it and enjoyed it. There was always so much joy. Everyone was singing or humming carols, dress codes were relaxes and we were allowed to dress in a festive way. Most of the patients had little tiny Christmas trees in their rooms. It was truly a joyous day to work. Plus the overtime didn't hurt! And I would volunteer to work on Mew Years Day. I never went out and din't want my coworkers coming in with no sleep or not very alert form a little to much partying. So they knew I would work it. Plus the overtime!

Our DS and family are going to be coming over, in PJ's. They usually come over and grandfather will be cooking breakfast. Then after we will opening the gifts. After that they will go back home, and return back for dinner.
I sure wish our DD and family would come also, but they don't like to drive five hour drive. ![]() Darlene

This thread was not intended to become a religious debate. Just a thread about what your plans are over the holiday. Please let's keep it to that or I'll have to close the thread. Thanks.

When we went to Myrtle Beach they had the beach vehicles and my husband didn't want to deal with putting in our car. They told us at first that they would deliver to our rental but when we went to the Chamber of Commerce where they had them it wasn't the current policy. I was looking forward to using it. And I'm sure my grand kids would have enjoyed being on it with me. But I still had a blast.
