Hi friends.
I need help w present ideas for SO's mother. She is hard to buy for. She is 87 and healthy and doesn't really need anything. She doesn't waste anything so she has accumulated enough money to live comfortably. She is practical. She has enough soaps and creams and perfumes- unopened on and in her dresser. She has sheets unopened from the 70's. She has her own and her sister's good handbags and wallets. She doesn't like flowers- you have to take care of them. Successes in the past have been Hanes pull on pants; sweatshirts to mix and match. A coffee substitute, Pero, after postum was off the market. We do give her gift cards which is so odd as she has more money than both of us together. She worked hard for it- she came to this country as an Irish maid. We have also given to charity in her name. I would just like to have a few things for her to open. Thanks, ANN |

Does she have one of those microwaveable fabric bags of rice or corn? They are so comforting. Easy to make, too!

Maybe a Nook or some other electronic tablet that she could read books on. You could get her a few different books to get her started and she could add what she wanted later.

Oh, almost forgot. There are holders you can place on your lap that hold the electronic tablets so that your arms don't get tired. Here's an example........http://www.amazon.com/Lap-Log-Chilip.../dp/B006ZN1CA8

Have you recorded her history? Sounds like she has a very interesting story.

A kindle or a nook is a great idea. One of the reasons, I love my kindle is because, my glasses need replacing and you can make the print as big as you want.

Postum is BACK....here...
Also there are many other very nostalgic things at this link...some are pretty nifty IMO... http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/s...FcxAMgodCGAAGA She may appreciate that you remembered the Postum and found it, too...that is part of the "gift". ![]() Other sources, which may be less $$: http://postum.com/where-to-find-postum/ less expensive on the website: http://postum.com/how-to-order/

An assortment of postage stamps? You said she's practical.

Thank you all!
Rochelle, she doesn't have a micro. She cooks from scratch as she will again on Christmas. What a great idea of recording her history. She was a ticket taker on trolleys in England during the blitz. Kitty, she doesn't read books. She reads newspapers and refuses to get a subscription. She likes to get used newspapers and mags from us and the library's "Free Box." Sally, she doesn't have a computer of any kind. We got her a cell phone after 911 and we never saw it again. ![]() She is very hard. Putting stamps in one of the cards w grocery gift cards is good. Thanks, BTU. And the Postum- tho outrageously priced- is fabulous! ANN |

She sounds exactly like my 94 year old MIL - she says she doesn't need anything ... We got her a weather radio that also is a regular am/fm radio. Also chocolates, a warm, fuzzy nightgown, tins of cookies, a pretty calendar, slippers, and a gift card to the supermarket we get her food at. Does she have lifeline? (if she falls the police come).
