It's been a long time since we had a "real" Thanksgiving. Before the store here closed, we got wonderful take-out turkey dinners. A couple of years before that, we roasted a chicken (not one of ours--a stranger), but it was starting to be a lot of work.
Back in my "other life", I would cook a 24# turkey for my former husband and me, and two kids. We ate hot turkey sandwiches for a week, and when I brought out the spaghetti my ex was crestfallen, and said, "No more turkey?" I don't know what I'd do if I knew I had to do that again, all that preparation. Holy Cow. I have a huge turkey thigh in the freezer, compliments of my son the turkey farmer, but I doubt if we'll have it for Thanksgiving. We're thinking frozen Paul Newman pizza.

Well, we are going to my DH family's for T-day. I am not going to inform anybody of my MS and my husband supports me in this. I appreciate all of your advice. No amount of education or explaining will change their way of thinking, bias or gossiping. As my grandmother used to say "It is what it is" LOL Perhaps it is the Yankee upbringing I had vs. the southern family he has?
It is going to be a long 6 days - but being surrounded by 30+ people; all at times arguing, loud, nosey and full of chaos - who will absolutely fight to the death for anyone in 'the family', can be fun in its own unique way. Motto of the week - be Thankful, be flexible

Good luck jprinz99. I have a neice that is married to a blind man and our boistrous family is a challenge for him. He somehow just puts himself in a trance and blocks it all out. But that makes him seem like some one who isn't participating. Her brother utterly dislikes this guy and this behavior doesn't help.

Hi everyone. Haven't been posting for awhile. Feeling better.
This Thanksgiving is going to be the first in my life that there is no big family get together. It is only going to be my son and myself. The sad part is that my son's divorce was final this past Oct. 2013. But there is good news. SALLY my dear friend prayers have been answered. My DD can't be here because she is having a closing on her house Dec. 2nd. She has finally sold her house after 5yrs. of trying. So she is moving to Ky. They will be here on Dec 3rd or 4th. We are planning to have our family Thanksgiving Dec. 8th. You know how I have been so depressed all these years without her and plus the MS and other health problems keeping me down. The support that I was given all the yrs. I first found the MS site helped keep me going. But when I moved to Ky. 5yrs. ago things went down bad with the depression. I feel now that she will be here things will be on a up lift. It is amazing, when our emotions are good the health problems don't seem as bad. When there is family support, it is the best thing in the world. The other support is you wonderful friends on MS. My biggest help is my love and belief in God. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!!!!!!!!!! JAPPY |

That's awesome Jappy.
You are so right about having support near by. I'm so happy that you will be spending Thanksgiving with loved ones. Better late than never, as they say...but it sounds like everyday will have some thanks-giving in it for you soon . With love, Erika |

That's so good Jappy. Kentucky is just our neighbor and it is a very well run state. I love it's school systems. And it is such a beautiful state. Where will she be.

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Hanukkah too!
Speaking of worried turkeys, I always enjoy watching the US President pardon a turkey. I'm thankful for a peaceful, quiet day without one of those dysfunctional families. My son's in Chicago with his dad and his dad's family. I don't do Thanksgiving any more--haven't for 30 years, but that's all right. MS makes me glad to have a restful day. DebbieD, my mother made wonderful anise cookies for the holidays. Years ago I got her recipe and tried and tried to make them turn out as nicely as hers did. I tried other recipes also. Nothing matched them. Mother, where are you when I need you?
