doydie

I guess with double the amount of the imodium, it is not surprising he lasted 5 days on a bag. I'm sure that was a nasty scare. Wonder if he decided to double the imodium so as not to "go" as much; if so, obviously not a good idea.

Thought we were going to have to deal with a bowel obstruction. He had a lot of gas pain last night. Of course he never tells me this until many hours later. Plus no output through the stoma at all. Of course he didn't try eating anything at all. So after consulting with the surgeon's office, off we go to the eR. Luckily it was half empty and we got fast treatment. Lab work and CT scan. No blockage but did show a hot gall bladder. The doc figured the lack of output was due to him increasing his Imodium to 4/day up from 2/day. The pain was due to the gall bladder. So we already had an appointment with our family doc this week anyway. If the pain had gotten any worse, they were ready to operate. What a night. And tomorrow family comes in for two days so we can celebrate 15 year old birthday.
Yikes!!!! I'm so glad he didn't have a blockage. How scary for you all. I am so glad he doesn't have a blockage. I'm sorry to hear about t he gall bladder. Those little suckers can cause so much pain during an attack. Hopefully, it won't give him any more trouble and can enjoy being with family and celebrating your grands 15-year old birthday celebration.

Well it didn't last long. We went back to the ER Sunday at around 10 PM, I would have preferred to go sooner but he's a man and man is spelled STUBBORN. So after being in the ER for 7 hours, he was finally admitted. My daughter and I were so exhausted but i am glad i had her there with me. So yesterday the surgeon at first said he didn't want to do surgery since the ileostomy was just 7 weeks old. He would prefer to have him in the hospital 4 days on IVs and antibiotics and try to drain the gall bladder which might mean we were going home with another drain. But today the family doctor and surgeon talked and were concerned that his temp had only gone down from 102 to 101 so they are taking it out tomorrow. I have no idea what time. He is on the on call schedule. So that means be there early. But I have told Charlie that when he is in the hospital he has the TV remote. So of course that means Fox news channel. And that right now is mainly the Republican national convention. Most of the time Charlie is snoring but then sometimes he will all of a sudden say something about waht they are talking about. He wants the curtains and blinds closed, room temp 74 and of course he is snoring. Real fun for me. I will take my iPad charge cord tomorrow an watch Netflix. I have no idea if they will be doing a belly button kind of surgery or big one. Either one is going to interfere with his ileostomy bag. And what do you do with an ileostomy anyway when you have to bathe the abdomen in the antiseptic stuff they paint the belly with???? I have 3 clean bags there.

Oh doydie,

I was concerned this might happen. My ultrasound didn't show that there was a stone in the bile duct. The surgeon, just before taking me up to surgery asked about testing with iodine whether there might be one. Glad I agreed. There was a stone after all in the bile duct. A relative that did not have the bile duct test had to go back a 2nd time. So I was aware there could be a stone in the duct.

Praying all goes well.

p.s.
Not sure you have the series Blood Line or Happy Valley on your Netflex. I had watched both of them on Netflix. They were pretty good. Either one could help pass the time.

I hope all goes well with the surgery today. Keeping you both in my prayers. I figured he was going to need to get it removed after reading your post. Recovery may take a little longer as he is still recovering from the ostomy surgery. Poor guy! Please let us know how you are both doing.

Ger had some great suggestions. Bloodline is crazy!!! I have not watched Happy Valley. I know you like the Hallmark Channel so Cedar Cove or Good Witch are other options for you, if you haven't watched them before. Remember to take care of YOU during this. Get some rest and take some me time.

Surgery went OK. I figured they weren't doing the little surgery when it had passed the 2 hour point. But he did OK, has the grenade looking drain again. Had that one for his ileostomy and it came out the day he went home. He may have to go home with this one. Surgeon, who has the personality of a wet noodle, said there was a lot of inflammation in his abdomen. So another big incision. It's going to look like a road map on his belly soon. He didn't like it when I left after 5 but I needed to get home, relax, fiddle on my computer, get some relaxing cat time. Didn't sleep well at all last night after sleeping 12 hours the night before. Not setting the alarm tomorrow, but have an 8:30 AM doctor's appointment on Wednesday but it is in the hospital. Trying to figure out my dizzy spells. One thing I don't like about this is that he had just gotten his driving privelges back. Now I am the driver again.

I'm glad the surgery went well. Hopefully that will be it for a while for Charlie. How did your appointment go? Are you still low on sodium? I remember you having trouble with that before. Anyhow, let us know how your appointment went.

Appointment went well. It's funny when I wrote that post, I really wasn't aware that it was Tuesday and wEdnesday was the next day. I just went to bed with a funny feeling that I was forgetting something. So I did have to get up and set the alarm. She agreed that if I was having the amount of swelling I said I was that I needed something. When she looked at my list of medicines she said the number one side effect of my Nifedipine was swelling in the lower legs. Ah ha!!!! Bingo!!!! So I called my doctor, #1 to tell them to cancel charlie's appointment on Thursday and to tell them about the Nifedipine. But my sodium is always low. I will get it checked in August again.

Charlie is doing well. When I went in his eyes were the brightest I had seen them in a long time. Surgeon said the gall bladder had stones, sludge and very thick and inflamed. It really needed to come out. For awhile Charlie has been holding his stomach when he sneezes. He said it was just because of his surgery 7 weeks ago. I think now it was because of the gall bladder. I sure hope he can get home and stay home now. I am tired.

I'm so glad they pinpointed the cause of the swelling in your legs. I hope switching meds will help you. How long have you been on the Nifedipine?

I am glad Charlie is doing well. Hopefully now that the gallbladder is out he will start doing better all around. I too hope that he stays home now. He's gone through so much over the past, what, year? You both have had your share of medical issues going on as of late. Hopefully you will both get a break from it all and can just relax. Hang in there!!!!

doydie,

Thankful this diseased gallbladder was removed before he needed emergency surgery.

Both of you have been thru so much; it's nice to have some positive things happening for you and Charlie.
