So, tell me what are sure signs of spring to you??

For me, it has always been when the robins come back. I have a yard full of them right now. I noticed them coming back last week even before the last snow we had.

Another one for me is when I suddenly realize that it is light out later. The other day, I totally lost track of time because of this. I thought it was earlier than it was because it was still light out. When I saw that it was 6 PM, I couldn't help but smile even though I had cut myself short on time because that is a sure sign that spring is around the corner.

The last one that I noticed this morning was the sound of baseball bats rolling around in the back of the van. Even though we trudged through 5" of snow to get there, my boys had their first baseball camp on Saturday. Ahhh the sweet sound of clanging aluminum baseball bats. That, along with the sound of birds chirping, must mean that spring is close at hand!!

Tell me what makes you think of spring.

The smell of the grill when we fire it up for the first time on a warm weekend evening.

The smell of hyacinth. It always reminds me of the house I grew up in and the flowers my Mom used to have every Spring. I went in Publix over the weekend and they had some for sale in the floral department. I just stood there and sniffed them for a while.

Sings of spring? Well....the weeds are starting to look green instead of brown. The birds (no idea what kind) start to build their nests and for some reason they like the ity bity ledge above my front door

We were 74 degrees Sat. sat out on the deck with a view of the mountains. Put the awning out and read.

I love spring.

Yep, when the robins return, I know it's spring. And when the sun comes in my kitchen bay window (on the north side of the house), I get out my shorts!

When I saw the title, I was thinking about the "herd" of robins I saw while walking a couple of days ago! Then I read your post. Funny.

All my daffodils are blooming. Seems early, but they look lovely.

1. The geese show up (april)
2. The ducks show up (april)
3. The sun sets after 7PM (soon, but light now)
4. The snow berms turn black and begin to melt
5. The foot of ice on ALL roads turns into a river of water
6. Buds on the trees
7. I wash my truck
8. The dogs drag in mud
9. The sun rises before I get up
10. Daylight savings start (Ugggg)
11. I can feel WARMTH from the sun, you know HEAT!
12. The moon is only visable in the blue sky
13. The tulips poke thru the snow
14. The moose are pregnant and ready to give birth
15. The bears awaken
16. The sun RISES for the first time in months above the Arctic Circle
17. The END of the Iditarod (started this past Saturday)
18. Convoys of Motor Homes appear on the hiways
19. The big ships arrive with tourists
20. The animals begin to shed

Oh! OH! I remove my studded snow tires!!!!

When the thunderstorms and tornados start firing up. (I live in Nebraska...tornados are always a sign of spring here)

The chickadees have a "spring" call. Along with chickadee-dee-dee, they say FEE-beeeeee.

I should mention that Spring is still about 6 weeks away here in Alaska...boo hiss boo!...and all the things I listed are just beginning...and I see snow in the forcast for tonight...blargggggg!!!

We have had a melt down the past week so I suppose a white fluff over the black mucky snow would be nice and pretty....

Here is a calendar that shows how much light we are gaining right now...about a half hour a week. Won't be long and we will be the land of midnight sun again (Who sleeps in the summer? Not me!)

Sorry...the calender reset itself....so the link does not work....we are currently about 7AM to 7:30 PM....gaining half hour a week until March 21st...then it begins to slow and adds less and less time...then by June 21st, we are only gaining seconds. Then it reverses and we begin the losing light phase....hard to explain.

If you can imagine this:
In the depth of summer, the sun rises in the NORTHEAST....circles towards the SOUTHEAST....circles towards the SOUTHWEST....circles to the NORTHWEST...dips below the earth for about 3 hours, but stays LIGHT....and then pops back up. It just does a big cirlce in the sky. It's amazing if you've never seen it!

Okay, enough learning....back to spring
