Default DH's surgery Monday & my mom (long)

Another eventful week in my household .

This is a long and possibly disgusting to some, type of post. You have been warned .

My husband has to have rectal surgery TOMORROW, a sphincterectomy and a fissurotomy. Go ahead and laugh, it's ok, he did and I did!

He has had hemorrhoids for years. They haven't usually bothered him much. For the past couple of months he has been having more than his usual pain.

He went to see the pcp about 3 weeks ago who did an exam and said that Tim "probably" has a rectal fissure along with his 'roids. The meds the pcp put him on did not help so he referred Tim to a gastro doc.

We went to that appointment on Thursday. The gastro doc could not even touch my husband's "problem area" because he was in so much pain. He was literally sweating from it. The doc prescribed dilaudid for the pain along with a lidocaine compound ointment. Tim said that this hurt more than when he dislocated his elbow!!

The gastro called a rectal surgeon right then and there so that the surgeon would see Tim the very next day. The surgeon didn't even have office hours on Friday but came in to see my dh.

On Friday, the surgeon examined my dh and I was there. I am not squeamish and my dh is not modest . Tim had a gigantic fissure. I could see it clearly from across the room! The doc scheduled Tim for surgery on Monday, 3/24 because the pain is just unbearable. Neither doctor could even address his hemorrhoid issue at this point.

Well, NOW Tim has a fever! I took his temp last night and it was 100.7. I am afraid that they will have to cancel his surgery due to infection. I will be calling the doctor this morning after dh wakes up. It's Easter. Why do these things always happen on weekends and holidays?

My mom was readmitted to the hospital on Wednesday. She was feeling horrible and has been completely out of it 90% of the time. She is having dimentia-like symptoms. The doctors have deduced that it is from a combination of all of the meds she is on. Her brain MRI came back clear ! Thank God.

Her sodium levels were low and she was a tiny bit dehydrated. She declined her radiation treatments 2 days in a row. It is so hard being a 1000 miles away from my family at this time. She was released yesterday. My dad is going to force her to go to radiation Monday. This is just what we have to do since she is not herself right now. She really wanted the radiation treatments when she had her thoughts together.

I really wanted to get back to Pittsburgh soon but now with Tim having surgery soon, I will definitely being staying in Florida until we get this straightened out.

I feel like I am being ripped in two. ARGH!!!!! Just wanted to vent and update.

Thanks in advance guys.
