Default English majors?

Yep.

Second time I've asked my fellow MSers to clarify a punctuation rule for me.

(And I'm hoping to be a teacher in 4 years).

I just did what I wanted to ask... With parentheses, does the puntcuation go inside or outside? The period, question mark, or whatever. Where does it go?

A. (And I'm hoping to be a teacher in 4 years).

OR

B. (And I'm hoping to be a teacher in 4 years.)

Thanks for your help.
Yeah... not supposed to start a sentence with "and". One problem at a time please.

If this is at the end of a sentence drop the And and place the punctuation outside of the parenthesis.

Depends if it's a sentence unto itself, or a thought that's parenthetical to another sentence:

I have a lot of homework to do each night. (I hope to be a teacher in four years.)

I have a lot of homework to do each night (I hope to be a teacher in four years).

Thank you B2!!

I was looking at it as a thought due to the "And".

Didn't think of it as a seperate sentence.

My boss goes to endless writing seminars and I swear he has a new book come in nearly every month....we just had this very conversation last week.

I was proofing his brief and questioned why he was now putting the punctuation inside of the parenthesis (even commas) and I was shown that that is now considered the preferred method. It doesn't matter if it is a thought unto itself or not.

If you can wait until Monday, I can tell you which publication this was addressed in.

Personally, I think it looks ridiculous but who am I to argue with the experts.

Moose,
What do you want to teach? Or was that just an example?

I'm brain dead this morning.

I haven't decided just yet. I'd rather do primary/elementary school.
As far as a specific subject, I've had some great English teachers in the past. (Believe it or not.) So I'm leaning that way.
