...but what a night! Last night, west MI was absolutely slammed with some of the biggest, longest thunderstorms I've seen in my many years here. It was unbelievable, I had to go to the airport and the lightening was actually blinding me!
The funny part is, my almost-86 dad was in a plane touring the storm cells from above and could not get home. He was supposed to land at 9:19pm, then it was 10:16... then 10:45... then midnight... it went on until 2:00am when they finally threw in the towel and cancelled it altogether. He spent the night in Detroit and will be shipped home this afternoon. The absolutely astonishing thing in all this was how uncharacteristically mellow my dad stayed through all this! It is normally a one-hour flight that lasted upwards of 5 hours! To appreciate what I'm saying, you should know that I once saw him snap an entire set of brand-new golf clubs over his knee, throw them down and stomp away never to golf again. When he called this morning to give me his flight info, I mentioned this to him, he chuckled and said, "Well, I've mellowed with age." LOL! I'll fix him up a nice roast and red wine tonight, he'll be even more mellow!

I've heard that feistiosity runs in families...but that's probably an urban legend.

Wow.....I'm impressed that your Dad kept his cool through all that! Good for him!
My Dad would have come unglued...and taken victims with him in the process!! He deserves a good home cooked supper! And you do, too, for driving in that horrible storm. Scary!!

And Thunderstorms this afternoon..... 68 yesterday here for the high and this morning already it is 81 degrees! They say in Maine "If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute"

No, no, Char, I choose my towns carefully; even in the incredible storms it only takes me about 20 minutes to get there.
Thanks all, my mom always said that my dad is a "spry old man". I call him Crabby.

That is so sweet of you to cook you dad an awesome meal after his ordeal (and yours).
I always feel bad when I start reading the posts and hear about everyone's horrible weather. As far as tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. it is very mild here. We do have our monsoons and those can be crazy. What some of you experience as drizzling all day, we get all that rain in about 15 minutes or so. But the monsoons only last for a few weeks. I hope your dad has a nice and uneventful trip home today and his mood continues to be mellow. |

We had your storms too. I sure bet your dad will have some stories to tell about the storms, especially with his "birds' eye view" of them.
I fell asleep to the rain pounding on my window and that doesn't happen to often because my CPAP usually drowns out the sound of the rain. I loved it!

LOL, this just in! The TV is blaring more storm warnings and his new flight takes off at noon:30... this will be exciting, a race against time and nature! It's a quick flight, but if my worst suspicions come to fruition, he'll end up in the same boat. He'll need a boat, the river rose 10 ft. overnight and the flash flooding is supposed to be bad all over town. LOL, what a great adventure for him!

Hope he makes it home Cindy. Yesterday was a bad day for us too. A tornado ripped through my brothers town and my cousins town here in Illinois. They are ok but that tornado stayed on the ground for at least 25 miles!
Hope you don't have to play bumper planes today.

You're about to get slammed any minute according to the radar. It's in Rockford and coming through at a pretty good clip. I'm hoping it will break up over the lake.
