Snoopy,
Sounds like you dd is having a great time. We worry about them so much but when they get back, we're proud that they handled it and it made them grow up a little.

For the People to People trip they have a delegation from North Louisiana that my son will be flying with the whole time, which includes three teacher leaders and 31 kids from 8th grade to 12th. We've had monthly meetings for the last 6 months going through all the plans, what to expect and basically having everyone get to know each other. So far, I've been impressed with their organization. I'm still worried about him, because he's my baby  He will be 15 a week after he gets back, I know 14 sounds so young and he's incredibly mature, so I'm hoping he will be fine. In fact, I have to brag a little :D, he was just accepted into the highly competitive school in Louisiana for Math and Science where they only accept up to 50 sophomores from around the state and he was one of the 50!! It has a college level curriculum and it's a residential school, so he'll be moving away in the fall.

I'll let you know how the trip goes, who knows what adventures we'll have. He won't be able to contact us much though from what we're told, so I may not know until July 12th when he returns.

We have gotten some lead America information also and it sounds like a great program too. Hope all is fine with your DD and she returns home safely and learns lots!

Kathy

Kathy,

That is sooo cool! I know, it doesn't feel cool right now :hug:What a great experience your DS will have.

I would be interested to know what your son thought of his time with People to People. Please let us know.

My DD was invited to join People to People 2 years ago but since my DS had already been to a LeadAmerica program we preferred to send our DD to LeadAmerica when we felt she was ready.

To everyone:

My DD called me today just to say hi! She sounded so happy. She was in the Hard Rock Cafe  (they were in groups doing their own thing) and then regrouping with the rest so they could go to The Phantom of the Opera.

She told me it felt surreal to her. She said she hasn't gotten used to all the horn honking and probably never would...LOL

Her dad and I are a litle concerned: there are a few times she will be responsible for buying her own meals (we sent money with her) but she wanted to get a hoodie from the Hard Rock Cafe. I reminded her she needed to budget and watch her money.

DD said she hadn't even spent any yet - Hello! This was the first full day there *sigh*

Oh well, this could be one of those life lessons she will learn from. We know she will get 2 meals through LeadAmerica and some days 3.

Wow, Kathy! You have every right to brag ;)

What a wonderful opportunity for you DS!

I agree, 14 sounds young but I also think it depends on the child. Some are ready and capable to spread their wings at that age, some aren't. We didn't feel our DD was ready for People to People or even leadamerica at that age.

I hope he has a wonderful time!
