Vic, that's really weird. Sounds like a case where one hand doesn't know what the other is doing (surprise surprise -- NOT!).

Curious, nothing is being taken out of the money that's being returned to me. Don't know if it's because I was able to do the expedited payment over the phone or the low dollar amount -- OR maybe it's up to each individual state...dunno.

Good luck to both of you -- hope it works out!

My wife's was a $10 deposit from college and a $640 credit from a doctor's office after the insurance company paid them. In Texas, you can file a preliminary claim online and then fill out a more detailed claim form. They say it can take 60-90 days to process, so who knows if or when we will see it.

Good luck, TXBatman. Think positive!! I was shocked to be able to claim mine over the phone and even MORE shocked to learn I'd receive it in 5-7 days!! I've found some money for relatives in a variety of states -- some of the sites are definitely easier to navigate than others. I checked some stuff in NJ and that site hasn't even been updated for a few years!! I really think this is one of those things to bookmark and check every once in a while. Whatever mine is that showed up in 2004 in NY HAS to be from 1999 at the LATEST!!

LOL, Vic, just caught this. MY finder's fee is a HUGE !!! I've made so many people happy today. Just called a friend of mind who relocated to Florida who's been having a hard time and she was shocked about her missing money. The only bad thing is that I'm having a little too much fun being Robin Hood -- I need to get some work done!

Whoo hoo! I got my check today. Still don't know exactly where this money came from but I don't care! I'm $143.50 richer today.

Anyone else make any more headway?

You're not going to believe this, but it's totally true!

I looked on one of those sites and found there was money owing to me.

No online forms to fill out for the one I checked here in OZ, no fees to be paid....and....here's the good part.

I had over $70,000 waiting for me to collect! That's right! Over seventy thousand dollars I'd forgotten about! Did I ever mention that I have MS and that I'm blonde?

I assure you mine is all above board, and I've already taken out $3000 but I've left the rest where it is for now as it's gaining interest every day. With interest it's now gone back up to around $71,000.

Do check those sites out because believe me, it is worth it.

No way, Koala!!! Did you find a bank account through the government you didn't know about? (I'm still finding this a little hard to believe!!) WOW.

I have a friend in LA whose last name came up with 23 hits. 21 of them were HER family -- including her own name, her uncle's and her deceased mother, aunt and grandmother. Her uncle even has a safe deposit box he apparently forgot about! (Some states tell you info. and others don't.) I can't wait to find out what's in the safe deposit box and he's not even MY relative!

Maybe this? http://www.bcunclaimedproperty.bc.ca/

I'm going to post the main link that I posted in Social Chat as well:

http://www.unclaimed.org/ There's a link to missingmoney.com there which covers a lot of states at the same time in one search but note that it does NOT cover every one of them and it's not immediately apparent. (That site needs a redesign!)

It is true! Totally and honestly true.

The money was in a Superannuation fund that I had forgotten all about! To be honest I thought I had withdrawn the amount (there was a time we could do that here in OZ, then they changed the rules.)

Because I'd changed jobs several times I really honestly thought I had withdrawn the money at some stage, and then I pushed it to the back of my mind and politely forgot all about it....for 20 years!

It wasn't until I checked one of those sites that I found the money.....and another smaller account as well!

All the money is safely logded in an account that I can access at any time now that I have retired, and as I said, I've already withdrawn $3000.
