Default Frugal Living

This goes hand in hand with Von's "Debt Diet" thread -- we originally had these threads elsewhere and got a lot of good tips. It ranged from things like cutting dryer sheets in half to saving on buying food, etc. Anyway, a thread in the front room made me think to revive the thread. When shopping online, here are two good tips:

www.retailmenot.com -- this site has a lot of current coupon codes for online stores. I almost always look here before buying online.

www.ebates.com - this site is great. It has a TON of stores most of us use. (You'll be surprised!) You just sign into your ebates account and then access the store you want through ebates and it opens a new window -- an ebates "ticket". Depending on the store, there are varying cash back amounts. The cash back is credited to your account and then ebates sends you a check. If you sign up through a referral you'll get $5.00 credit in your account immediately -- and so will the person who referred you. If you know someone on ebates, have them send you an invite or ask for their url. (For those of you who don't know someone with an account, I've included my url in my profile.) After you get your own account, spread the word to your friends and you'll both be credited after the first purchase is made. You can even start a train on this board with a board buddy --have someone sign up (preferably using a referral so you can get $5 back right away) and then they can use yours and pass it forward, etc.

Looking forward to hearing more tips anyone has for saving money. Still cutting dryer sheets in half here!

Thanks!

My big frugal will start in a few weeks, with growing my veggies. I think I could start my pepper seeds any time now - indoors. We'll see how that goes.

Hi Bearygood!

I come from a long line of frugal people, it's second nature to me. I save money any way that I can, but I can also be generous for good causes and an occasional big splurge. I can be embarassingly thrifty at times according to some people that I know.

I hate being frugal I like to spend!

My thinking is: enjoy it while you have it because you can't take it with you.

Sorry frugal friends, but I'm with Bannet on this. I had to be frugal, all of my adultery life. I have earned the right to be frugal no more..

DD sorta took that job over, although she does come to Mommy for help, once in a while.

But AMN is right....free food still tastes best.

You mean like, going to Costco and tasting ALL their samples? LOL. DD17 loves going there with my mom just because of the samples. She comes back with a full tummy which is rare for her. LOL.

EDIT: DD17 is always hungry. I do feed her. LOL. I posted this and it didn't sound too good, like I was starving her.

LOL tkrik! I'm a Costco fanatic! It costs more to walk out the door, but I just portion down and freeze, or have lots of stuff on the shelf. I always check the shelf life though as it's just me, DH and DD19 who is not always here...Never know when she'll show up for dinner. I can spend the same money here at a grocery store and have 3 bags Although the fruit I have to avoid as we can never eat it before it spoils.....

Hey BG ... how the heck have ya been??? sure missed ya! well, me - oh, I've been busy too (tax season) ..

wonder if we would talk with the mods to have our threads in the front section?? do you think they would go for it? then they wouldn't get lost!

YEP - I'm a bit frugal too ... this year, going to buy from the local farmers and go to the farmer's markets instead of 'shopping' for groceries ... get eggs and a bunch of fresh goodies...

also, I'm working with a friend of mine to grow herbs .. to make herbal oils and cleansing products (something special from wisconsin) ...

thanks, BG!
