Any hints on how to deal with a bi-polar boss? She takes her meds, but the more I'm around her, the worse she gets. She goes balistic for nothing, blames me for everything and has taken our 'friendship' and destroyed it. I'll spare the details, but could use some ideas. She also gets in a mood where you could cut the air with a knife. It's very hard to deal with 60-70 hours a week. HELP!!!!
Thanks Jeannie

I'd get another job!!! It is so sad for her, being bi-polar, but, I've had the experience of befriending a person suffering from raging bi-polar, and it is not healthy for you. I had to get far far away from that distructive behavior..
If it is a loved one, of course, that is different. Through love, patience and understanding, you find a way to deal with it. There is really nothing you can do to change it, but just be there and encourage them to stay on an effective Med. Sending prayers for your Boss and for you..

Thanks Sally!
So do you just try to ignore it when its happening and stay out of the line of fire? That's what I try to do, but I've been feeling stressed lately. My stomach is in knots when I leave for work, and my period has disappeared the past month or two. This happened last year too with an agressive boss. Pray for me and my continued success at my school work, I'm 1/3 through it now.... Thanks J

GJ,
Sorry about your boss situation. I can relate, though mine is an employee, related to my business partner. You can either quit, or just pretend that you work in a mental facility and that part of your job is to deflect these moods. If you can change your reaction internally, you might be able to lessen your stress. That's what I've had to do and it makes it more tolerable.

HI GJ!
I agree with Wiz. Find ways that you can deal with it within yourself. It may make things easier for you. However, if you still are unable to deal, then definitely look for another job. You don't have much more to go with schooling so hang in there. |

My ex-step dad is bi-polar, there was just no dealing with him. You just never know when he would "flip out". My mom stayed with him for 19 years. I'm no help here, just wanted to say I understand how hard it is trying to deal with someone that's bi-polar.

I got to agree with Sally, Jeannie, its not a healthy environment for you, you have enough on your plate, maybe it will be less hours and better pay too so you can have more time for schooling hope you are ok

Well, if you really must stay....
maybe do a little research into how to communicate with a BP? Do her rages flip on and off like the click of a button? If so, there is this little book that has some good tools in it. "I Hate you, Don't Leave Me." Best of Luck to you....whatever you decide! Just keep your faith and remember this is NOT about You!!!

Yesterday turned out to be an UP day, LOL!!! Let's see if she can keep this on a roll!!! I'll work on deflection of the bad times. Only have a few months left till I get laid off for the season so I'll hang in there. Thanks for the advice!
