The Federal Do Not Call never expires now. However, some telemarketers have discovered that in most cases nothing will be done about their calling. Politicians and anybody remotely related to them are exempt from the restrictions, same with all non-profits. :(

Thanks, that was easy!

years ago, my very first house. OH! how proud I was. To be a home owner! no more renting. got the lights on, the cable on, the heat on, and the phone in. same day ring ring...OH! my very first call in my very first home..."Is Ann there?" drat! its not even for me! "no, there is no Ann here. sorry." I was crushed. "this is collection agency so and so, and we know Ann does live there, please tell Ann to call us as soon as possible." I explain. "Um, I just got this phone number today. Maybe it was Ann's OLD number, but now its MINE. please dont call back." I was mad now. "yeah, sure lady, we hear this all the time." I asked for the superivisor and went through the whole speil and asked to be removed from the list. I am NOT Ann, I dont know where Ann is, or what her new number is. it was 20 minutes of her not believeing me, and going through the motions. 5 full years later Bill collectors were still calling for Ann. I guess she owed half the free world money or something. Police departments, and bill collectors till 10 pm. I had to contact a local atty to make a few calls on MY behalf to get 75% of it stopped. The day i moved out of the house, I was wrapping it all up and the phone was supposed to be shut off by noon. the LAST phone call i got was "Is Ann there?" CRAP! I am not gonna miss this phone number!

It was going to cost ME money to change it. It was a GREAT phone number easy to remember, and tons of fun. If you used the last 5 of the number, it spelled out our last name. My children loved the number, and so did the hubby. it was worth fighting for.

Since it was in an effort to collect debts, and NOT a sales pitch, they had the right to hunt for her. She kept running up bills all over town, and used my number for years. Dont know why she picked my number. Just random I guess. its been bliss to have this new house, new number and NO calls!

Yep! Our Attorney General's office issued a statement a few weeks ago that some of these agencies that are calling are NOT on behalf of the local agencies. So beware!

That's not true. It you are getting harassing calls, you can get a one time number change for free. All you have to do is call the phone company, explain to them what the situation is and they will take care of it.

That's what that tire company told ME. Since they were the ones with the printing error I thought why should I, a small business owner who did NOT make the mistake, bear the cost of changing all MY business cards, etc. They certainly weren't going to reimburse me. Shoot, they didn't even reimburse me for all the fax paper!

the do not call list does not expire now, a few years ago when I signed up it had a 5 yr time limit, this latest change happened in 2007, which i hope applies to those of us who signed up before 2007, I could not find info on will those signed b4 2007 expire still or will not expire, I must say I would assume that all numbers registered and will not expire, i will find out in about 2 yrs or so:eek::eek::eek:

Cananda soon to have Do Not Call List

Canada Do Not Call List to be Operational in September

1 Aug 2008
Starting September 30, Canadians will be able to prevent unsolicited calls by registering with a do-not-call list (DNCL).

Any Canadian phone number can be registered, whether used with a landline, a cell phone or a fax machine. There will be no charge for the service.

Unsolicited calls will still be allowed from charities, political parties, polling or market research firms, newspapers seeking subscriptions and companies with which consumers have existing business relationships.

If consumers continue to receive non-exempt calls after 31 days, they will be able to file a complaint. If an investigation shows that violations have occurred, fines of $1,500 for individuals and up to $15,000 for corporations can be imposed.

Registration on the list will be valid for three years. At that time, it will be up to consumers to re-register if they want their number on the list again.

To register your number call 1-866-580-DNCL (3625).
