That's lovely. I'm sure you weren't expecting someone else with MS on your paradise island nevertheless one who was a hairdresser! Glad you got a new "do!"

What DO you people eat on in the islands?????? Man, I'm afraid to find out what else is in your furniture stores there. Dare I even ask what your repast consisted of?

No fair! You didn't TELL us you were going to a spa.

LOL Congratulations! I'm glad you're safe for public viewing. All this and NO photos. Man..... are WE deprived or what?

their teeth are like sandpaper, (not like pirhannas or anything!), and it was fun to hold a piece out, and wait for a fish (nearly as big as ME!) to swim alongside, and snatch the delicacy out of my hand.

yes, I got splashed, and soaked, while my companions were busy discussing politics and conspiracy theories avidly, back at the candle-lit, linen-covered table perched over the water.

Way cool. I'd be with you out there feeding the tarpon. What a picture!

since tourist season is over, we had a little beach house for only $30 bucks a night, fully furnished and equipped, even air-conditioned... surrounded by palm trees, mangroves, and flowering tropical bushes (bougainvillea, hibiscus, etc.)
(I'm done with the popcorn and onto the ice cream.....)

Sounds lovely--truly lovely. Makes me want to be there. I can see why you live around there.

Friends with a bookstore? Oh that would be heaven!

So waddya reading now?

Poor hubby..... but a great visual. My son used to sleep with his knees under him and his butt up in the air. Somehow my mind flashed to that and a full-grown, adult male doing that.

Hope the hubby's posterior end is nappy-rash free soon. I'm sure that's not comfortable!

I'm so glad you had a good time. How'd the zoo do while you were gone? Did the critters miss you? The goats didn't have their babies while you were gone, did they? What will that make you - a grand-baaaaah? Sorry....couldn't resist!

Are ya'll in the path of this new storm what's-his-name......Gustav or something like that? I hope not.

We're waiting for all of your pics!

Stotty's such a smarty-pants !!

I was tired when I typed that, it should've said our dinner table COMPANIONS consisted of...

there were a dozen large round tables under the palms, in the sand, and we got lucky, our table-mates were jovial, interesting, articulate, and witty.

then again, ALL the guests were, once I relaxed, lol !!

but none were edible, or suitable for framing...

we had potato salad, cole slaw, barbecued chicken and pork, samosas, garnaches, salbutes, beer & soda, and ended our repast with chocolate cake, sprinkled with nuts... muy delicioso !!

been here nearly four years now, and this was my very FIRST trip to the islands !!

we just got so busy setting up our little farm, and acquiring stock, and planting, and building, that we never had TIME to play tourists...

but it was now-or-never, with the goat kids arriving "soon"

we never actually SAW the matings, so are unsure, but by using a goat pregnancy calculator, and Duke Leto Atreides' acquisition date (04/01/08) as the "earliest possible" we arrived at 8/29/08 as the soonest.

http://www.goatworld.com/articles/pr...regnancy.shtml

oh, I LOVE the innernets, and all its helpful tools, don't you?

Leeloo and Lilah are all moved into their new kidding house, and all is prepared, with our goat-obstetric kit, towels, flashlights, etc. in a "jump-bag" by the back door...

si, si, ESPECIALLY in book-deprived Belize... the climate here is notoriously hard on books, with bugs that eat the pages, and funguses (fungi?) that dissolve the binding glue...

there's only ONE library within an hour of us, and ONE bookstore, with used books, a lotta stuff I don't read, like romance, westerns, and trashy beach novels (think Valley of the Dolls, or Sidney Sheldon-type stuff, lol!)

So waddya reading now?
now reading Gibbon's Decline and Fall, by Sherri S. Tepper, and so far, I give it a 20 on a scale of 10... it's exquisite, a skewering of the the male-dominated culture, from a woman's point of view... I'm lmao-ing all OVER the place... that's the book on my nightstand.

http://www.herebedragons.co.uk/hell/st.htm

by the hammock sits David Baldacci's Total Control, and in the loo, I have Neck Deep : The Disastrous Presidency of George W. Bush, by Robert Parry.

I dunno, Elkie, I'd be nervous out there, what with storm surge, tidal waves, and hurricane evacuations... plus, the water table's like, 2 feet down, ya gotta sink pilings to BEDROCK, and engineer your house so that it's THERE when you return...

naw, that's too much trouble for this gal, I'd rather be safely inland, and just VISIT the beaches and islands regularly.

American Airlines, Continental, or TACA will get you to our only international airport, Phillip Goldson, just north of Belize City.

there's flights from Miami, and Dallas daily.

from the airport, take a land taxi to the water taxi dock, and a journey across the Caribbean, out to the cayes.

or if you're feeling rich, Maya Air, or Tropic Air will zip you over in a few minutes by prop-plane.

and Gustav's headed *north* of us, no fear, dear!

Belize only gets hammered by a big hurricane every five or six years, and last year, we had two (Felix and Dean) so (unless the global climate change folks are right...) THIS year should be a good time to come, after November, when the cooler season arrives...
