Default Pathology from hysterectomy

My surgeon told me they would do a 'frozen section'. For those of you that don't know this, a pathologist gets a section of the uterus, does a quick biopsy and tells the surgeon whether he sees cancer in THIS section of tissue. If he does then the surgeon proceeds to the next step which would have been lymph node biopsy. If negative, they finish up and you are on your way out the door.

So the day after my surgery, he comes and sits on my bed...I just hate it when a docotr sits on your bed, what bed had ne been sitting on right before he came to your room, what germs...anyway he tells me that frozen section was negative and see me in 6 weeks.

So all my family have been asking me what the pathology was. You have to remember that my sister had jsut had extensive breast cancer surgery and we are all on pins and needles. So i decide to call surgeons office and ask them. I get to talk to his nurse and she tells me the pathology was cancer!!!!! She says it's encapsulated, which is very good.

So was this guy who I thought was a reallly nice surgeon just going to wait until 6 weeks and then tell me it was surgery? What happened to the lymph node biopsy? Is there going to be anything done for staging since there were no lymph nodes removed?

So I think I am going to call his office on Monday and ask to see him before the 6 weeks check up to get this report. Of course on Monday they start the remodel on my family room and there goes my sleeping hours

Wow, Doydie, how frightening!

Did that nice surgeon think he was protecting you by not telling you the whole truth? Sheesh.

Encapsulated does sound good, but why didn't he tell you?

I'd much rather know so I can have time to wrap my head around it.

I wish you well, Doyd. It's gonna be a long 6 weeks, isn't it?

I hope your sister will be okay.

And good luck with the remodel.

Doydie,

I hope you can get in to see the surgeon next week, if for nothing else than to set your mind at ease. Try not to worry too much. It's possible the nurse even misinterpreted it?

Doydie, I hope you can get the results quicker than six weeks and that everything is fine. It's so hard to wait on something like that.

I can't believe the surgeon sat on your bed to talk with you. Should be bedside manner, not on-the-bed manner.

Good luck with the remodeling.

Is that all he said? Did he go into any details? Seems like he may have left some stuff out. I'd be calling the office and get some details of what exactly he meant by "negative."

I hope you get some answers.

I'm so sorry they left you with more questions than answers - especially given the circumstances.

I hope you get to the bottom of it quickly and the *negative* part was the right answer.

I totally shocked that the nurse would even tell you something like that over the phone!

I'd be asking some real pointed questions come Monday morning. Somebody's not in the loop.

Good luck....and I hope the nurse was the one who was wrong.

Hey Doyd~ I agree w/Kelly; didn't think Nurses or office staff could give that info out over the phone. And, I would definitely be calling their office right away tomorrow to find out the real scoop.

You know I'll be thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers.
