Default Rainbow....

Rainbow vaccume just called me and told me my friend Stephanie gave them my information. they recently did a demo with her and she can earn a free air purifier if I watch the demo I said ok (reluctantly) and then called Steph. She said she already has the air purifier, but can earn two more if 4 people do the demo. I am trying to decide wether to cancel the demo or just do research on how their vaccumes stink to combat their demo when they come over (thursday night)

I have ZERO ZERO NO interest in spending $2,400 on a vaccume since I have very little carpet in my home anyway, I have mostly tile. Even if I had that much money, I would never spend it on a vaccume.

Should I cancel or bring them in and torture them, lol. ?????

Hey Sir Earl! I used to have a Rainbow vac and loved it. Since we pulled up the carpets and have hard wood floors, we gave it to our DS to use. His housekeeper loves it.

Oh, and I say torture them.. (snicker)

Hey, Earl, only a completely imbecilic, shameful, foolish, ignorant, dull-witted, vapid, cretinous, moronic, muttonheaded buffoon* would pay that much for a vacuum.

I say cancel and spare yourself the junk mail!

My dad sold these on the side when he was in the air force - 30 years ago! It was a great vacuum, but I think we got ours cheap. They are HEAVY!

Idea #1: Watch the demo and say, thanks...it looks great...I'll go buy me a refurbished one for 1/3 the cost!

Idea #2: If you are really not interested, you may want to cancel...the poor salesman probably has his hopes up.

My Dad bought a Rainbow vac from a friend of my brother's about 25 years ago. I couldn't believe he paid $400.00 for a vac. Even back then it was $$$$$!

I finally used it when I was caring for him before he moved up with us. I couldn't believe how great it worked! I'd never buy one, but I can see why he did. This is a LIFETIME vacuum, not a throwaway. Service is excellent, but he never had to get it serviced in over 20 years and he used it every other day for YEARS!

It's mine now, but I am still using the Kenmore canister vac until it dies. I bought the one I have in 2000, to replace the one I inherited from my mom that had been in use in our family since 1963. I figure I have 25 years left with it.

They educate you, then quiz you afterward to make sure you know that it's not the amount of suction, but the amount of air flow that makes it a good vacuum.

Then they phone their rep who is equally high-pressure.

I told the saleslady in advance that I wouldn't buy it (I wanted the free stay in Vegas, which BTW, I never did use), but she stayed an hour and a half and sprayed water on my table. Her goal was to demo the thing for a dozen people, then she would earn a free one.

The thing weighs a whopping 33 lbs.!

Here is what Consumer Reports has to say about the Rainbow eSeries E2:

CR's Take
This very expensive model was excellent at keeping emissions low and at picking up pet hair. Has been the most reliable brand among canister vacuums.

Highs
This HEPA-filtration-equipped model cleaned bare floors very well and rated an excellent in the emissions and pet-hair-pickup tests.

Lows
This model was only fair at cleaning carpet and at ease of handling. It lacks a retractable cord.

Manual-pile adjust Yes
Suction control Yes
Brush on/off Yes
Retractable cord No
Easy on/off No
High efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter No
Folds for storage No

However, in all fairness, 48 people reviewed it and gave it an average of 4.5 stars.

Earl, if you have absolutely nothing better to do and you love to harrass salespeople, I say GO FOR IT!

My mom and dad are STILL using theirs too! I think they had it refurbished after about 20 years and it's still working great.
