Does anyone have any experience with electric snow throwers? (Not gas) Bob should not be shoveling anymore, though he thinks he ought, and we're having a hard time finding willing and able shovelers in the community that don't want an arm and a leg. I am considering surprising him with an electric snow thrower so he can continue to shovel the paths and dooryard.

I wonder if they hold up? If they really make it "easy"? If they're safe? Looking forward to your comments.

I was not aware electric blowers were available. It's been a long time since we lived in an area where I had to shovel snow. It would seem to me that an electric motor would have a hard time throwing wet snow. Dry snow would not be a problem. It's an issue with torque. Electric motors tend to slip (mechanically speaking).

I'll take that back. I just asked my dad about electric snowblowers. They're all right if all ya get is 2-3 inches of snow occasionally. He says alot of people in southern Michigan had electric jobs. In northern Michigan - electric wouldn't be any good cuz ya get 225 inches of snow a year.

Oil is at 225 degrees at this point in time. Needs to be 350 degrees for the turkey.

I don't think electric snowblower/shovel would work well with the amount of snow you get in VT, B2Y. There's some really good key start gas powered snowblowers though! No pulling on a start cord for ten minutes, just turn the key and off you go. As long as they are kept in good condition (as in spark plug change, oil, stabilizer in the gas) it's the way to go. If you are talking about a very small dooryard and path/steps area, an electric would work, but the plug limits the area you can do and you have to stay ahead of the storm and do the clearing every 2-3 inches, not good when there's a wild northeaster blowing! I have trouble staying ahead of storms with a 4wd pickup and an 8 ft. Fisher plow! I've got my yard set up now so I can plow the long driveway right into the yard and just push the snow out on the ice so all we have to shovel is the stairs. We moved the woodpile out to the side of the house and just plow right past the door!

We had a small toro electric snow blower and it was ok for small jobs.....It's gone to snowblower heaven 'cause Hubby ran over the wires with the blower..

Check out Consumer Reports. They have a rating on just about everything and DH is still thrilled with the inexpensive leaf blower/mulcher that they recommended some years back. I also used it for my last new car.

Oh and do let us know if you find a nice one. That sounds like something that would be very helpful.
