In Maine we have a law now, that pets must be able to accompany owners to shelters or that the shelter has to have a plan in place where the animals are sheltered at a kennel or Humane Society or some other safe place, so the owners will not stay in a dangerous situation because they are afraid to leave their animals.

The law was passed as a response to the situation after Hurricane Katrina.

We actually have "warming stations" opening all over the state, where people can get warm and have a hot drink or some soup, because of the current economic situation and the likelihood of folks being too proud to ask for help but being unable to afford to stay warm during the daytime hours, whether they heat with oil, wood, electricity or gas.

I have this mental picture in my mind of you all, shaking bones and bells and charms, muttering prayers and voodoo curses, dancing around in a circle of salt, with leetle glasses and tiny bottles of cheer in the middle...myyyyyy friends!

My prayers go out to everyone affected by the ice and snow storms.

I was thinking the north east was going to get off easy this year (it sure seemed that way for a while) until the ice storm hit. What a mess
