Default electric fireplace!!!!!

We had been looking for fireplaces for our new family room but it was all talk. So we decided to start looking. My husband doesn't like to open his wallet. Like when we were shopping for furniture for the new room. He gave me theis rediculously low price. Then he say this Lane furniture set of sofa, loveseat and recliner. Cost a lot more but he loved it and bought it on the spot. He said when you find quality you buy it. So when he saw this fireplace at Home Depot he fell in love with it. It cost about twice the amount we had been looking at. But our girls are able to help a little. So I go out tomorrow and buy it. We won't be able to pick it up and install it until this weekend though. My son in law just got home from Iraq and my daughter and him are spending the week in Gatlinburgh. Can you imagine having a nice cabin in the mountains with a hot tub inside and out and you bring your two dogs!!!!

We just ordered a brand new gas fireplace for our basement. (old one was a piece of junk and nearly burned down the house 2 weeks ago...and it was ugly)

So, in January, we're getting our new fireplace installed professionally, and I cant wait...even tho the old fireplace was junk, it did keep my basement and bedroom warm. I'm feeling the cold this week! I'm freezing!

Hope you like your new fireplace (my aunt has like 3 electric ones in her house, plus a gas one, and she loves the electric ones)

I had a scare this morning. When I got up my DH had left a note for me not to go pay for it. He said we had 'other financial priorities'. So when he got home he said we needed to talk about it. So he talked. Then I said it was time for me to talk. He just said , no, we can't afford it. About a month ago my Mom gave me/us a small part of what would be mine when she dies. She did this with all the kids. I wasn't going to pull this 'my money' thing but I did and reminded him how much out kids were putting in on it. So there ws little left for us to pay. He has wanted a fireplace in the family room for years. And he really loved this one. So he didn't give any arguement at all and I immediately went to Home Depot and paid for it. It weighs about 200 pounds and we will have to wait for this weekend when our kids get back from Gatlinburgh to go pick it up. Then I get the lovely opportunity of putting it together. But I have it now! I actually have a mantel I can put stockings on now!!!! Now I have to find a picture to put above it!

Aw Doydie! My DH is sort of a "non-spender" too , but I spend my money on the things I want/need for the house. I know there will be battles if and when I retire.

I hope you can get your fireplace and that DH will pay. QOL is important, after all...

Good fro you, Doydie, on all fronts, SIL back from Iraq and getting your fireplace, and standing up for what you want!

Another one here married to a tightwad. My dh has always had the feeling he was going to get layed off since the day I met him.

Those fireplaces are really pretty. I've been looking at the gas ones (we have a hook up in LR so it would work).

Doydie, those are so nice! Glad you were able to get one.

I keep seeing the commercials for the Amish Mantles and would love to have the electric heater insert for our current gas fireplace. The gas one looks pretty, but all the heat goes up the chimney because it doesn't have the electric blower on it to force the heat into the room.

I hope you enjoy yours!

Electric fireplace ...? Does that actually heat a room?

I have two gas fireplaces and they throw a LOT of heat. In fact, I hardly ever use the heater because I like the bedrooms cold anyway. The fireplaces heat the living room, kitchen and dining room almost TOO well.

I didn't know there was an electric fireplace that actually heats though.

Cool Doydie, do you have a picture of it? I've seen one advertised on TV and it's portable, so you can set it up anywhere.

Congrats!!!

They are supposed to heat 400 sq feet and that is the size of our family room. It doesn't have a blower so I'm not sure how it heats. I think it requires three 40 watt bulbs so I'm not sure how it works. When we get it put together I'll take a picture and put it up. I have my Moms very old oval beveled mirror that I think would lolk nice hanging above but it defientely would need to be anchored in a stud.

It doesn't look any more difficult to put together than all the bookcases, entertainment centers or desks that I have put together. My DH never can understand how to put those things together. He just wants to open the box and start putting things in something without reading the directions. So I decipher them and then he provides the brawn.

Our friends have a gas fireplace that have a thermostat. It never gets any warmer than what you set it to be.
