I really really really hate that PA. She's the moron who told me that my first MRI was clear. (she didnt read thru the entire report, 3 pages long, and didnt see in the Impression that the MRI was NOT clear...just not conclusive) A half hour after she told me the MRI was clear, my opthalmologist had called me to tell me there WAS a problem. Imagine my total panic when he told me that...he and I BOTH called my regular doctor's office to complain about that PA. She's a total ditz.
She's also the doodoo head that told me that the numbness in my right thigh that happened about four months before that MRI that the numbness in the thigh was a SPRAIN and "to put some heat on it", and insisted that icing it wouldnt help and "DONT ICE IT!". (well, it didnt help, but it didnt make things worse like heat did!) She's also the person who gave me a Rx for an antibiotic yesterday, but wont give me a Rx for another medication to take care of the infection that that the antibiotics I'm taking for my current infection is probably causing. ("blah blah blah...that antibiotic doesnt cause THAT type of infection!...blah blah blah" ) I guess she has a house payment to make or something, says that I HAVE TO come in and see her tomorrow. (yeah right...I'm not letting her touch me, I'll get my actual doctor to see me if I have to or the really cool PA, but the idiot PA is not touching me) I really hate the idiot PA, and I'm pretty sure she knows it. I complained about her after she told me my MRI was clear, when it wasnt, and she's been nasty to me ever since. Not my fault...if she hadnt been such a dumb <bad word> then I wouldnt have ended up complaining about her. But, I know my body, and I've been allowed to treat those other infections with a standing prescription (that just ran out) and never had a problem with getting a refill for it. Argh! edited to add: Yay!! I was just straightening up my box of medications, and found an extra bubble pack of the med that I was whining about wanting that she wouldnt give me a Rx for. Yaaaaaaay!!! Thank goodness! Dont have to deal with her tomorrow...oh, and I found my probiotics that will help too because antibiotics give me tummy aches, and the lactobacillis is great for that for me.

Hi Erin,
I'm on antibiotics for a UTI too right now and have to take acidophilus along with it too or I get that other infection. Just wanted to commiserate with you. I wouldn't want to see that PA either. I don't blame you. Glad you found your other med and don't have to go in just for that. |

I'm glad too. I thought I was out of them. I was tossing out old prescription bags and found an unused Rx inside the bag. I was SOOOO happy to see it there!
I hate being on antibiotics, but when I've got a UTI, I'll cheerfully take the antibiotic, even tho it's going to trigger the other infection. UTI's really suck, dont they??

Is that treatment not over the counter in the US?

We have the over-the-counter stuff here too, in a cream...(ewww!) I prefer to take the pill for it and forget it. Less of a mess. (sorry guys, if you've read this far into the thread...I know...TMI!!)

If I were you, I'd ask for a rx for the pills at the same time as the antibiotics for a UTI next time. It sounds like there is a pattern here!
You have a lot of UTI's too, Erin, and I think I would be asking for a referral to a Urologist if this keeps up . . . especially if you have other signs of a neurogenic bladder. It may be that this has nothing to do with MS (if no other signs of bladder "problems"), in which case you may need to find out what else might be contributing to getting them so regularly, like diet, clothing, bathroom routines, b/f issues, etc. Infections are not something we want to have regularly, and neither are antibiotics (if they can be avoided). Here they sell a cream PLUS suppository method for treating that type of infection, over the counter. It's slightly messier, but it works well enough and is really not that inconvenient. At least that way you wouldn't NEED to visit/call a doctor's office on a Sunday (or wait for an appointment on Monday). I have left yeast infections for several days actually, so the good news is that it is not really an "emergency" from an MS perspective (unlike most other infections we get). Cherie

I actually think it's the brand of condoms he'd been using. I think I'm allergic to something in the condoms or the gooey stuff. (ummm...ick?)

Hi Erin,
I hate PA's too! I feel much better seeing the regular doctor. I feel that is what I'm paying for so that is what I should get. I just left a dermatologist because I always got the PA. With my new doctor, I always get her. She's got experience with autoimmune diseases too so I feel much much better (also need the dermatology check for being on Tysabri -- she knew what the drug was). Anyhow, peace of mind is worth something--not having to worry and not having to argue. If I were you I would demand to have the regular doctor all the time. Tell them that with your MS (a serious chronic disease) you would feel more comfortable being able to see the regular doctor every single time you call for an appointment. Push it. You deserve and need it. Hope you are feeling better soon. Natalie
