Hey, Al, thanks for the update; I'm glad to learn that your dad is doing so well, but so sad to hear about your mom. It's hard to see it, I agree.

The only thing you can do is to keep being her daughter, same as ever, and do your best to see past the illness and let her spirit shine back to her through your eyes. You'll make it, we'll keep praying.

i'm so sorry about your mom ali.
all you can do is be there for love and support.
and, to be her advocate to facilitate her wishes.

i lost both my parents too several yrs ago. my dad was in hospice care which turned out to be a blessing. what about looking into that for your mom? they give fantastic comfort care and help the family too.

blessings to you, your mom and your family.

Hey Ali! Sorry to hear that your Mother isn't doing well. I can understand how you feel, as I watched my own Mother and Father succumb to that disease and I too, felt so helpless. It's so hard to watch someone you love, fade away. Please know that I am keeping your parent's both in my prayers and of course, you too.

Thanks for the update and try to hang in there.

I'm sorry I missed reading this thread until now, Allison.

I am so sorry about your parents. And a divorce on top of that? When it rains...

My MIL died of pancreatic cancer. It is such a wicked disease. It just breaks your heart to see the ones you've depended on your entire life become dependent on you and others.

I wish I could find the printout I had from Hospice that explains about eating. It allowed me to minimize the guilt I naturally felt when Dad would eat much (I know you've been away--I just lost my dear Dad to lymphoma last month).

Anyway, the article said that when people get so sick that they don't want to eat, it is best not to try to coax them into eating for you. It can make things much more painful for them. They are not trying to be difficult, it is just the body's way to deal with things sometimes. (Not stating this very well, sorry!)

I hope you don't have guilt about your Mom not wanting to eat. I'll send you the article when I find it.

Bless you for taking care of your folks. I am glad your Dad is doing better. I had a radiologist once tell me that if he got prostate cancer, he felt he'd be apt to die of something else before the cancer got him (because of it normally being so slow-moving). Where your Dad has taken a proactive approach, I'm sure he'll be just fine.

Keeping you all in my prayers.

I'm so sorry about your Mom. I hope they're helping her for the pain. I went through this with my Mom, over a few years, from Alzheimer's. It was a roller coaster of emotions. Treasure any moment of clarity and love and keep those for your memories. I'll keep you in my prayers.
