Dejibo - You were not wrong in your reaction. You offered your email address if she needed help with the computer. She was wrong and way out of line to send you mass emails along with all her email friends.

I would of done the same, perhaps you should mention to this kind person why you had to clean out the PC at church its cause she opens doors to spammers and junk emails, i don't think you will go to HeII for what you did. like I said i would done same thing you did. she shouldn't take it so personally its email

Dej.....you did nothing wrong by asking her to remove your email addy from her "junk list". I think her gripe isn't so much with you but the fact that she got called out in front of everyone on her email address list. Which is probably what needed to happen....'cause I'm willing to bet you aren't the only one who was irritated by all the junk mail. The others were just probably too scared to say anything. She'll get over it. And the pastor asking you to apologize......well, that was just wrong. I realize he's probably just trying to keep the peace but it should be her apologizing to you.

And I hope it was just tongue in cheek when you said you were going to H E double hockey sticks for what you did......if you believe that then you'll have plenty of company 'cause I'll be there, too!! We're blessed in the fact that debt has already been paid for us.

Hope you're "in box" is peacefully empty today!!

Remember back in the snail mail days , all those chain letters?

Boy howdy would those tick me off. I have countless cousins. Yep, they all thought I was lonely and needed mail.

I wasn't the most favorite the next Christmas. I included a note in the Christmas cards to remove me from their mailing lists and let it be known that I wasn't happy.

I do have some friends that will send some FW's. I can tell by the number that I get, they send only the ones that I will enjoy.

Since hubby and I own a business and have a website, one of those emails our members and clients, use gets numerous ones daily. I don't open them, but with that addy, it's like free advertising.

Dej, I think a note to your Pastor about privacy may help. Does your church print out a directory? If it did, I doubt it would be ok to sell the list of names and addresses.

I looked up some email etiquette rules, and found this.

http://www.emailreplies.com/#hoax

"If you receive an email message warning you of a new unstoppable virus that will immediately delete everything from your computer, this is most probably a hoax. By forwarding hoaxes you use valuable bandwidth and sometimes virus hoaxes contain viruses themselves, by attaching a so-called file that will stop the dangerous virus. The same goes for chain letters that promise incredible riches or ask your help for a charitable cause. Even if the content seems to be bona fide, the senders are usually not. Since it is impossible to find out whether a chain letter is real or not, the best place for it is the recycle bin."

The woman who was sending you that junk was completely in the wrong. She's probably claiming "everybody does it!", but really, not everyone does. (most people who have commented in this thread have said they dont)

I also found this http://www.netmanners.com/email-etiq...-silly-emails/

I think that the lady who was forwarding the emails to you needs to read some of these sites. She apparently has no idea what the proper etiquette is for emailing people.

Instead of having a hissy fit because you asked her to stop forwarding you crap, she should just respect your request. I dont think you did anything wrong by Replying to All either... She's the one who got you into all of those other people's address books. Replying to All was pretty much the easiest way for you to inform those other people to take you off their lists.

One of my relatives gave her daughter (her 8yr old daughter) my email address and my instant messenger name. I've actually had to block her daughter's email address because that kid instant messages me CONSTANTLY and emails me all sorts of forwards and things...including emails with attachments that are not good for the workings of my computer. (I dont like viruses in my email)

Hopefully the lady who let your email address go to everyone she knows, will realize what a putz she was and will apologize to you.

Excellent point, Yappy one, along those lines I'd like to know if this woman was "on the clock" of the church's budget while dinking around reading and forwarding personal emails. Hmmm, if so, methinks she owes the whole congregation an apology for squandering precious resources.

I stopped in at the church today to speak to the pastor. I told her how upset I am. That I allowed this to follow me through my day, and it was unfair. I told her I feel that my services have been valueable to the church, and most computer services charge between $60 and $80 per hour. I have donated ALL of my time, in exchange for a letter of donation. I do use it as a tax write off. I told her its MY job to make sure that the church computers remain virus/spam free, and for this woman, in a postion of authority to step forward with such ignorance, and gall to blindly forward JUNK! was a hot button for me. I repeated that I do NOT feel I over reacted, and while I am sorry that SHE placed HERSELF in a position of embarrassment, she is not my child, and it is NOT MY JOB to protect her, nor shield her. I spoke softly, and let her know that IF this continues, or is allowed to escalate, then she will have to contact that professional service to do the updates, and upkeep for the computers. I REFUSE to be treated so rudely, and under NO circumstance will I apologize to someone who injured me. I stood up, and left her with her mouth open. As I reached the door, she mentioned a computer issue. I told her i was NOT taking care of ANY issues other than my own today. Because this woman so recklessly passed my name forward I had 426 emails this morning when I signed on, and my server sent a notice that they think I am being spammed! Until I get MY OWN computer repaired from the damage, I am NOT going to touch anyone else's. I calmly gathered my hat and coat, and left.

I guess she contacted the woman who spammed me, and I got a letter of apology in my email box this afternoon. She spoke of how computer illiterate she is, and how much she has to learn. She asked if I would be willing to show her how to not run out the whole address book when sending out something she thinks is fun or a worthy cause. She told me she hopes we can get past this, and she is willing to pay for repairs to my computer if needed. WOW! nice! so, I responded that I am thankful she finally sees how damaging such actions can be, but I am NOT available for private lessons. I gave her a link to the local city college that has courses on basic computer stuff for FREE to seniors. I reminded her to please REMOVE my name from her address book. I gave her my phone number instead.

I guess the pastor saw that I was serious, and was not going to bend.

Thanks for all the pats on the back! Now I just need to finish clearing up my own account.

I agree you did the right thing. At work was not the place to be slamming email boxes with spam anyway and your privacy is that, private. Don't let it get to you.
