For some reason my daughter has become fascinated with the sand man. One night she was refusing to go to sleep and I told her the sand man could not come and sprinkle happy dream dust on her while she was awake. And if the sand man comes and she is still awake he will just turn around and give her happy dreams to another kid who is sleeping.
I cursed myself with this as every night now she kisses me good night, goes upstairs, brushes her teeth gets in the bed then sneaks down 5 minutes later to tell me I need to call the sand guy and remind him to come. So DD is spending the night with grandma tonight. My mother calls me. "Who the h#ll is the sand guy??? And why do I have to call him?? Your daughter is throwing a fit because I don't know the sand guy and she is crying because she has to come home to sleep!" She hung up on me when I told her the psychic friends have a link to him on their webpage.

I will admit, I thought of a song when I first saw the title ....
Kids do amazing things sometimes. I remember having to sleep with a large stuffed animal since it was the only thing big enough to chase the monsters from the closet or from under the bed. I cried and had a fit when I lost it on a family vacation. My poor parents. Sorry to hear your DD had a rough night. Maybe you could add something like a stuffed animal. Say you found out that the sandman will find her if she has it by her bed, so he can find her even when she's not at home? Just an idea.

LOL...You started it...LOL... Tell DD that the Sandman always knows when to come. You don't need to call him..
If you're going to play the game, you have to go all the way, with it..

Seems the sandman showed up last night and brought the flu bug back to poor DD. Now my mom is feeling yuck too. Good thing we can't go to KY til Tuesday.

I hope your DD and mom feel better. If us parents knew that some of these things would haunt us for a long time, we'd do things different. You'll have to call the sand man until your daughter no longer believes or come up with "proof" that he has it on his schedule. Maybe an email from the sand man (if you DD is old enough to understand)?

LOL...Enjoy it while it lasts! When my son was 5, he sat me down with a very serious face and asked me to tell him the truth. Is Santa Claus real? How about the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, the...All of them. I had to tell him the truth, 'cause I promised, and he was OK with it all. It was a sad day for mom, though..

wow, that brings back memories. I used to make monster spray too. it was a lavender scented spray. Then I use to put a dot on the back of their little hands, and ask them to keep smelling that spot till they fell asleep. The deep breathing would knock them right out.

That was a great story, Legz! The things we do to help them sleep, eh?
I learned the hard way with my first daughter, not to get too detailed in my stories. After that lesson, I resorted to, "the only thing I know for sure in life is that there is a GOD, and I love you". My eldest talked as though there was still a Santa though, long after the youngest stopped believing . . . and there's 3 1/2 yrs between them. HA! When they asked if there was Santa, I said, "well, think about it . . . if you stop believing, he'll stop bringing presents". I think that's why my eldest hung onto those fantasies until she was about 16. My youngest used to ask, "why don't YOU ever bring us any toys, just clothes and things like that?". I said, "cause I know Santa will" .... It sure is much easier, cheaper!, and more "glorious" now that we don't have to play the Santa/tooth fairy/easter bunny games any more. Cherie
