I probably wouldn't peel potatoes this way, since it uses so much energy to get it done...(yep, I'm one of those green freaks).
My DH bought one of those silly gadgets on a show once. It's called the Rotato...has a little blade that peels your potato, apple, etc by sticking your veggie/fruit on a spike and turning a crank...it actually works very well, and uses only human energy...he loves using it. He's weirder than I am

I'm in the camp of "way too much work" for a simple process.

I may be the only one left in the world, but I never peel my potatoes. I like the skin!

It's my understanding that the only vitamin content in a white potato is in the skin. The rest of it is just starch waiting for ketchup or sour cream.

I haven't peeled a potato since I was 16. That's when I got married and didn't have to peel them for my mother. Plus the nutrition is gone. Fiber too.

We love the skins. Same with carrots. Don't peel them either.

You got married at 16?

I got married just before my 19th b-day. I remember feeling so mature then. Now I shake my head and wonder what was the rush?

Oh well, at least we hung in there! 35 years for me.

Another no-peel person here. Why waste the time, effort and vitamins? Just cook 'em and eat 'em.

Maryann!!!!!!!!

That takes too long. I'm going to try the potato peeling mitts instead. lol

Seriously? I keep the peels on. That's where all the nutrients are.

My Mom always left the peels on. Mashed them up....peel and all....and they were sooo good! After I got married I was told "my mother doesn't cook them that way" and things changed..... Now, due to physical challenges I usually buy the pre-mashed frozen potatoes. Next time I go to the grocery I'm buying a big ole' bag of potatoes, boiling them with the skins on and mashing them up just like my Mom did. Really....it's the only way!

Twink,
Me Too!! I got married a month shy of my 19th bday...and it'll be 35 years for us next Monday!!
My eldest son asked me a couple of years ago if I had to get married...I told him if I did, that was the longest pregnancy on record, since he was born 18 months after we were married...

I personally love baby red potatoes with the skins on boiled and rolled in butter and parsley...but we peel potatoes for turkey dinner with that rotato...
