I did wait to report what I said until I saw it on more reputable channels. I saw it on Fox, CNN, ABC, and CBS all claiming the same thing, that she has been declared brain dead, and was being flown to NYC to be surrounded by her family, and removed from life support. AIG stole the first several minutes of everyones new stories, so it was hard to get confirmations, but I promise, I didnt just come pop up the first one I heard about.

It is true with head injuries, you can appear just fine. Reports were that the medical team at the slopes tried to insist that she seek outside medical help, or evaluation, and she reported to be feeling just fine, other than a small bump on her head. Within an hour she was suffering from a severe headache, and was taken to the local hospital where it was discovered that she has brain bleeding, and increasing intracranial pressures. She quickly slipped into a coma, and shifted her brain stem. They will not normally fly a brain injured person until well after they are stable, because of the shifting pressures, and increase in risk to the brain stem.

I pray these reports are wrong, and I pray that she is able to benefit from the medical teams in NYC who are world famous, and second to none. She seems to be a lovely person, and I enjoyed her work. No one should have to leave behind children.

My prayers for her and her family.
I don't know why they would have to fly her anywhere to pull the plug unless it has to do with donor issues or where they want to bury her. That said when someone is brain dead there really is no waiting for the swelling to go down or stability.

What a sad, sad thing.

I just saw the news too. They have a doctor on the O'Reilly Factor on FoxNews right now talking about how those types of injuries occur.

It's scary, that a bump on the head in just the right (wrong?) spot can kill you. Seeing as how both my mom and I have had concussions (well, my mom had a brain concussion from a car accident in '57 when a drunk driver hit the car she was in...she was unconscious for 5 weeks. She's lucky she lived) We're just now starting to see the long term effects from a TBI with her.

I've been whacked in the head with a drill bit, the head of a hammer, a cement floor or three, and have been blindsided in the back of the head by a fist. (14yr girl decided she wanted to kill me when I was in 8th grade), and a few various car accidents where my head impacted a windshield or the ceiling of the car.

I feel pretty lucky that out of all those head injuries the worst was the contre-coup concussion I had from falling on a cement floor while roller skating. Took a week or two to recover from the headache and the whiplash that I got from the fall. I was told it was mild. Sure didnt feel mild to me. Especially the whiplash! I couldnt lay down in bed, because I'd end up like a turtle on its back and couldnt get up without help.

I'm a big believer in wearing helmets for things like skiing or riding bicycles now.

I feel bad for Liam Neeson and his sons right now. I'm actually thinking of sending a sympathy card to him thru his publicist or manager. I liked Natasha Richardson's movies. It's sad that she's died so young from a preventable injury.

They are speculating on the cause of death in this article:

http://www.newsday.com/news/health/n...,0,65382.story

She was checked over, and appeared fine, but then an hour later had a headache.

This is how my dad died too, @ age 33, from a fall in a roller skating rink. He seemed fine to everyone as well, till the headache came on. Unfortunately he decided to go to sleep instead of get checked out.

When I fell at the skating rink and hit my head, they didnt even call an ambulance for me. (they did a few years earlier when I broke my arm tho, still had to wait for my dad to get to the rink before they'd call the ambulance) After I hit my head that time, the manager wouldnt let me go back onto the rink to skate tho. She made me take my skates off and wouldnt let me leave the snack bar till my parents got there. (they werent home. I had to sit and wait for them) Made me sit at a table and wouldnt let me eat or drink anything...wouldnt even let me go into the bathroom alone.

My dad's the one who dropped the ball on my concussion that time tho. I didnt go to the doctor until about 2 days later, when I threw up at school and was falling asleep every 10 minutes in my math class. (and my dad's a nurse)

This is the reason that everytime I've gotten hit on the head since then, or seen someone else get hit on the head, I insist on calling an ambulance, or taking them to a doctor as soon as they can get there.

It scares me just how dangerous it is to get a bump on the head.

If she is over five feet tall, and fell from a standing position, that means her fall was a 5 foot fall smack onto probably the back of her head. That is where alot of vital things are. a tiny tear in one of those blood vessels, and the head fills with blood, putting pressure on all those other vital places. The brain is the consistancy of jello, and when you slosh it about, it can tear many of those vessels that keep it fed. its just that easy.

This is so sad. She was so well loved, and such a great person. She was not in your face on news casts telling you her opinion on whatever topic they are debating today. She was kind, sweet, and generous. She is younger than I am. No one should die this young! She didnt have time to put her affairs in order. She didnt have time to say goodbye to those she loved, and those who loved her. She didnt have time to wrap it all up. it was just supposed to be a bump on the head.

Truly sad.

It's always so sad and so unfair, when A Young Mother has to leave her family behind to fend for themselves . May God be with them.

Autopsy shows a sub dural hemotoma. she had a bleed under her skull, and the pressure caused the contents of her brain to shift far over, and forced it to shift the brain stem. Really sad!

The world is sending its love and condolances to the family. She was a lovely woman.
