Okay, now that I have your attention, what do YOU do to motivate yourself on days when there are things to be done and you'd rather be lounging around like a couch (or bed) potato? I've been planning to get out and do errands for the last 4 hours but so far all I've gotten to is the kitchen and the bathroom.
I need to get moving!! And I'm going to do it, right this second (err, well, in the next five minutes) but really, do any of you have any tricks to get going when you don't feel like it? This is becoming all too common for me and I need to get over it! |

No tricks for me. I just don't get anything done anymore. Right now, my butt is stuck to my chair. I will probably fall asleep in said chair at some point in time and then wake up to chastise myself for not getting anything done (again!). Then, I will force myself to get up and go visit Grandma and I will end up feeding my kids fast food too late again. Sigh....

Butter? Olive Oil? Crowbar?
How about a buddy? I know it helps me to get my daughter motivated and sometimes for her to buddy up with me to rid me of the I don't wanna's. I am a self starter, but can get sidetracked by over multi tasking. Her...it takes a stick of dynamite to get her to do chores or errands.

Im too hard on myself. I frequently make myself get up, when rest would be a better idea. Even if your not asleep, some down time can help recharge a battery for ya.

I literally just make myself get out of bed and get going.
If I have hesitation, I think of how much of a chump I'll feel like if I don't get what needs to be done, done. I always convince myself I'll feel much worse if I don't get up and get things done, than if I stay in bed. Generally, it's the truth

I start by making a list of what I need to do.
This gives me enough anxiety that I am not crossing stuff off that it works as motivation for me. There is a certain amount of satisfaction when I mark up the "to do" list. |

I always promise myself something to look forward to once the top priorities are accomplished. Then I also make myself a deal that if I only get through priority one, I can take a rest.
Once I get myself engaged in priority one, two and three seem less overwhelming and sometimes, I even finish four before my nap. Sometimes. Some days just begin as a total wash, today was one, but I have learned to allow myself these days in order to have the more productive ones. It's always a crapshoot with this disease and I fully understand what you mean. Someone once put up a thread about "SAS" (Shower Avoidance Syndrome) and how just the thought of a shower seems too overwhelming. We all agreed, hands down, that once we're in the shower, we wonder what all the fuss was about. A lot of the time, for a lot of us, it's a matter of mind over matter.

Hey BG! I was just talking about this w/a friend. I used to take the earliest appts of the day, no matter what time they were and now I find myself asking for middle of the morn appts. I get up early enough, just can't get my body or mind motivated to accomplish much until I've been up a while. Oh yeah, I was also the one who sometimes had to wait for a store to open, as I was an early bird; not anymore. (sigh)
I miss that spurt of morning energy. Now, taking breaks between errands or chores seems to be the norm for me. When did I get old and beaten down???? And, when I do accomplish a few things, well it's like I got a gold star on my forehead... I'm so happy to have something done. Don't feel bad~my tail was stuck to my bed yesterday. take care Good thread~
