Default Today I saw that my Mother is getting old

I have spoken about my Mom's severe back pain from severe degenerative arthritis of the spine and spinal stenosis. Last week she got bronchitis and it won't let go. I took her to the doctor today and I think today was the first time I really realized that she is not immortal and someday will die. She is 83, feircely independent, has high blood pressure, atrial fibrilation, for those of you that know what it is she has tachy brady syndrome so she has pacemaker. she has had several small strokes. But she is a precious woman who was the love of my Dad's life. He died 10 years ago and nothing would make her happier but to just quitly die in her sleep and wake up being next to Dad in heaven. But she lost loves her family here on earth and wants to see them all grow up. Her 4th great grandchild is about to be born. She has a very active and wonderful life in her retirement home and is well utilized in many activities.

Sorry for hijacking this forum just to tell you about my Mom but I love her.

Awww, Doydie. I was sure my Dad would live forever, even though he was 95. I'm sorry about your dear Mom, but happy she is doing good in the retirement home. I hope she sticks around to see her grandkids and greats grow up. You are a loving, caring daughter, Doydie.

BTW, your thread is NOT a highjack! This IS, the Stumble Inn, after all.

Hang on to your faith, Doyd. It's hard to see our parents go, but it's an amazing relief to know they're not suffering anymore. It takes time, but when she & God are ready, you somehow will be too.

My husband is just learning this lesson. Everyone in the family lives to be 100, and no one ever gets sick. His dad at 88 was just found to have lung cancer that has spread to the bone. He had to be admitted to stablize his pain, and they are being forced to put him in a home, as he isnt safe at home, and momma cannot do this alone.

I learned this long ago, but my momma has been sick all of her life. She had polio as a child, and has suffered many maladies all through her life. Its a sad, hard lesson, and scary.

Love your momma while she is here. Take her to lunch. buy her flowers now. write her a card. Ask her about HER childhood. make sure you get her to write down recipes and make some yummy stuff together now.

Now is all any of us have.

Oh my gosh, Doyd~ I could have written your post. My Mother had a pacemaker and similar ailments as your precious Mom. Yes, she too, was the love of my Father's life. She never really got over losing him and missed him every day, but I now have the comfort of knowing they are together and painfree.

It's never easy to lose such an important person in your life, and believe me, I still miss my dear Mother every single day. As AMN said, your faith will carry you through those times.

(Give her a hug for me, eh?)

No need to hug me, Doyd, it's quite a commute. My reward will come later.

Thanks you guys. She is feeling better today. I just wish medicine was not as it is today. You would think that an elderly woman of her age and all her health problesm could get a home health nirse to check on her but she doesn't qualify!
