My mom and I were laughing at the way she speaks. She ended the convo with how funny I sounded to her. She's from deep south Tennessee. She says warsh, winder, virginity (a woman's private), alzheimers is olt'timers. LOL

She does say tomatoes and potatoes correctly though. haha

My sister and many down there are always fixin' to do something. And when it's alright it's "A'ight" and "by golly" is reserved for when they are REALLY angry at you. If you hear "by golly" run and keep running!

Since moving to Kentucky and adding on a new kitchen

I was talking with the electrican about the lighting I wanted put in
the kitchen.

I said I want the round recessed lights.

He comes back Oh you want Cans put in. I say "NOOO" I want
recessed lighting. After back and forth realized they call them Cans here.

Another thing my brother says, when he doesn't know what I'm talking about, is: "Do what, now?"

Default Another one

My dear MIL was the head housekeeper in a local nursing home and she especially liked working on the "Al-heimers" [Altzheimers unit].

My ex MIL was always telling me to "dress my feet" instead of "put your socks, and shoes on."

In the north, its "can you turn up the TV" in the south its "cut up the TV" or "cut on the light"

Up here, "ill" means sick. Down there, it means "crabby". "How come you so ill today?"

Whuuh? Not termaters and pertaters? What about Okkry? My Pappaw loved a mess of fried okkry! Mammaw's favorite was fried squarsh! His name was spelled Bernard, but he hated the way outsiders pronounced it. He prefered Burnerd, the grandkids called him Mr. B.

My vocabulary changes like the weather. I grew up in Mississippi. I left home at 22 and have lived in Ohio, Nebraska, Texas, DC, and California. But if I get upset, angry, flustered... my southern drawal comes back mixed with local color from all the other places!
