I say let it go bc this guy has made up his mind about what took place and there is no changing his mind.

I would not even think about paying until the repair was checked out - to make sure it was done correctly.
What if you do pay and the thing starts leaking next winter???

Also makes me wonder why he was so quick to say he'd drop it..
[he is going to write it off to bad debt ]

if he was in the right he would stick by his guns....

Exactly! I was thinking this same thing the other day. He was so overly defensive, too - bullying even.
