Default Worst Moment of My Life

I learned a couple of things today.

Somebody asked me one of those discussion questions, like we do here at the Inn sometimes. The question was, "what was the worst moment in your life?"

For some people, there would be a quick terrible answer. I have never suffered a tragedy such as losing a child, widowhood, or the like. But for a couple of minutes, I started to ponder a possible answer, and a lot of bad moments came tumbling into my mind.

Moments such as getting the bad news of a loved one's death, being betrayed by a friend, the moment I realized my mom had Alzheimer's, the day one of my kids said "Mom, I have to tell you something...", the end of a marriage, etc. Just starting to consider what might top a long list of possible "worst" moments was emotionally overwhelming.

The first thing I learned is: It's probably not healthy to dredge up life's worst moments in order to choose a winner.

The second thing is: Getting a diagnosis of MS would not even be in the top twenty. Maybe not even the top fifty. Imagine that.

I agree with both of these observations..

And think of it from this angle... We learn and grow from those bad experiences. Is it true? Whatever happens that doesn't kill us, makes us stronger? I know it is for me. Some of them I'd reverse, such as my Mom's Alzheimer's, but others I relish (even if painful) because I learned very valuable lessons.

Many "moments" from my life are better left as a far and distance memory. What I have learned from these moments, should be a close memory.

I agree with your 2 observations 100%. Great post B2Y!

Worst moment of my life? The moment that my dad told me that my uncle (his brother) had died. I think he really got cheated out of being a grandfather. His daughters have some of the neatest kids around. (uncle's been gone 14yrs, his oldest grandchild is only 5yrs old now. She and her brothers are missing out on a guy who would have been the best grandfather around)

second worst, was the day that my dog TinyMonsters died. Yes, I know he was "just a dog", but not to me. He'll never be "just a dog" to me. I really miss him.

Not even in the top 100 for me!

I used to work in customer service and had to listen to quite a few complaints along the way. Some were nice about it....realizing that it could be fixed and knowing that nobody "messes up" on purpose. Others.....they acted like their world just imploded. It took all my strength not to ask them point blank "Is this the worst thing that has ever happened to you?"

All of my life lessons have taught me alot and definitely made me a stronger person. I don't understand all of them or the reasons behind them.....but I will one day.

Nope, MS did not make the top 25 list. My brother's death from cancer, my sister's 1st child with Down's Syndrome (Forever a 6 year old - he's 31 now.) my children events, parents - you know I don't need to review anything!! When I was younger and thought it was "the worst moment ever" it wasn't. In a few years, couldn't even remember it. Right now is carpy, but I'll live.

Nope my sxs did not make top ten anyhow hehehee

But as someone said, those moments make us/ break us... for most I hope those moments make us stronger...

When I was preggo for Sabrina, and being told no there is no heartbeat as I thought, when past due date by two days....worst moment...but hubby and I grew even stronger closer, and I think things like these make you realize more the little things in life can not get you down... after dealing with a biggie in life....
We are blessed with five wonderful children, and one wonderful Angel in Heaven for our family... that is how the oldest two kids feel about our Sabrina...(they were five and three when we lost her) she is the Angel that looks over our family is what they say ahhhhh

we all learned a great deal from my number one worst moment....so I would say even worst moments have good moments somehow....hugsss,sarah
