Default Lump Under Jawbone???

Does anyone know what could cause a hard lump under the left side of my jawbone? It feels like it is right up against it.

A few weeks ago the whole side of my mouth was hurting. I took two rounds of antibiotics. Following that, the dentist xrayed and couldn't see a sign of infection. The nurse practioner checked for an ear infection, but that was fine. Now here it is probly a month later and I have this knot.

It hurts 'some' but not really bad. Hurts more when I push on it.

Any ideas as to what it could possibly be caused from?
Thanks!

Go back to the dentist. Have them check again. You can have pain from a tooth that needs a root canal without the dentist finding any sign of an infection.

You need to have them check it again, and if it is infected, get it taken care of right away.

I have a feeling that part of what triggered my vision problem this summer (among a few other MS oddities) was an abscessed tooth...I think things were helped along by a UTI also, but I think the tooth problem was involved too.

There are a few things it could be, but if it's not dental in origin, and it's not a swollen lymph gland, then it could be a stone that's formed in a salivary gland.

These stones aren't uncommon and they're called Submandibular (or submaxillary gland) Salivary Gland stones, and can be very painful.

Here's some links that explain a bit about them, but there's plenty more on the Net if you want to do a search.

I know this may not be the answer to your problem but if it is a stone, they often fix themselves. Please feel better soon.

If your tonsils are infected, it can cause a swelling in the lymph gland.
If you have popcorn stuck under a tooth or crown, and its abcessed, it can cause a swelling
If you have an old tooth with a root canal, they may not have dug far enough to remove all the old material, and it may have re infected.
You may have a new rooted abcess.

Do you have a water pik? wash out that area really well to make sure that no food debris is hung up. it will also massage the gums.

Do you have pain still? If so, your dentist needs to do an xray to check for leaking roots, or abcesses. it sounds like your lymph gland is telling you something in your mouth isnt happy. Even with no pain, the dentist needs to make sure its lymph, and not a bone protrusion that would mean something totally different.

Good luck

Default I appreciate your help!

I think Monday I definitely need to start somewhere, either doctor or dentist. I may call the nurse practitioner first. She is good to point me in the right direction.

Thank you...Erin, Dejibo, and the 'Little Bear' down under!

When I saw your thread title, the first thing I was going to ask was, "Have you taken antibiotics lately?"

I've noticed when I take them that I get a lump behind my jawbone on each side. (Enlarged lymph nodes?) But you haven't taken antibiotics for a few weeks, so I would ask the dentist, as has already been suggested.

Best wishes to you, Friend.
