Have you seen this website about FM? {and CMPS}
http://www.sover.net/~devstar/define.htm

this is interesting -
[ Physical therapy and all other forms of treatment must proceed very carefully when both of these conditions are involved, because any excess pain caused by the therapy can further sensitize the central nervous system. Any treatment regimen will be both more complicated and less successful than if the patient had only one of the two conditions.

and
some of the treatments normally prescribed for FMS patients can cause damage to CMP patients, and the reverse is also true. You cannot strengthen a muscle that has a TrP, because the muscle is already physiologically contracted, for example. Too many physical therapists see a weakened muscle and immediately attempt to strengthen it without testing for the presence of TrPs. Attempts at strengthening a muscle with TrPs will only cause the TrPs to worsen and may develop satellites and secondaries. ]

I think this is why many with TOS, CMPS, FMS often don't have a good results with PT.
They don't look deep enough for a person's specific causes & needs.
They just do the old generic cookie cutter PT plan....

Default Today I...

My dear TOS community!
I am so sorry for this long silence, but.....
After my pectoralis-major transfer I still have some very strange feelings in my arm and in the shoulder region. TOS is going to be more irritated - and I don`t feel so good.
It is strange: the muscles and the articulation of the shoulder, the movements developpe quite good - and the sensations, the pain, the irritations are completely out of a normal way.
There is a burning sensation "inside" of the arm, but the skin is cold, by elevation of the arm there is a feeling of a heavy something and I have difficulties to lift the arm (but in a passive way it is possible), there is swelling,....

But most of you know, how difficult it is to understand all these sensations in the arm and so I will not vent.

I have read some of your posts and I send my best wishes to all of you in the hope, that all kind of problems will find solutions.

All the best and very nice greetings.
Barbara

Default Hey All

Long time, no see.
I sure miss all the fun here, energy & information.
Tons & tons of updates & new info as I read at 2am.
Really great posts & answers.

Gibbrn - sorry to hear you have FM. I too was shock off my feet when told. Makes sense though.
And Johanna is correct with Dr. J's response.

Tam -u started a good thread...

Et all - so many new TOS patients here, incredible!
Question, how did all of us find NT?

Had a scalene block in May.
Took a couple of hours to feel the effects.
It did wonders for me.
2 weeks of olecyn was back.
If I could only bottle up those 2 weeks & let the Gennie out a couple of hours each day for the rest of my life.

OPANA ER is working good for me except for the wide eyed bushy tail at night.
Kinda like speed but keeps the CRPS at bay.

Cyn- it is nice to see you back
i haven't had the problem with bright eyed bushy tailed at night from opana...weird!

i myself am hoping to do another round of botox injections soon to get a few of those good weeks like your block gave you

actually, in general i have been feeling pretty good, my massage therapist really made a breakthrough and did something to make my back feel great a month or so back. Some of the pain has returned as it wore off, but only about 10-20%, and repeat treatments seem to be keeping it generally at bay. I have been doing SOOOOO much gardening since, and it makes me really happy.

I have also been working the egoscue exercises...easy and gentle. I know i am doing something because i can feel the muscles in my legs and butt getting stronger. I have only been doing the lower body stuff so far.

Barb- so nice to see you back on here, too....keep fighting for yourself, and hopefully you will have a breakthrough...

to everyone else, thanks for being here...and just be the best you you can be, enjoy all the little stuff.

johanna

Default Hey after along time

I'm not sure how long it has been. We are just ending a heat wave that has been great for business but very hectic and stressful. Mark, Iknow you know what I'm talking about. I am very frustrated. After a recent doctor visit, I have been left alittle discouraged. I also have a new symptom. Has anyone experienced a sharp pain in the neck, throat area? If I put my hand on the right side of my neck/throat, where I feel I believe the aorta(?) it is very painful. My doctor didn't feel it was anything other than TOS pain but is is different than I have ever felt. Oh well, one more to add to the list!

It has been so long since I have been on- Ihope everyone is ok. I just got through daughter's prom and getting ready for a large 18th birthday party for her, graduation, 5 year olds blessing day at her pre-school and ballet recital. Ready to shoot myself!! Husband's b-day was yesterday with no celebration due to work.

I hope all is well. I will try to read past postings. Still, as always, glad you are all here. Linda

Hi Linda,

I often have a deep pain in my throat (just to the right of my windpipe, i think thats the aorta too?). It feels like a deep aching/itching type of pain. This pain has recently started to extend into my chin and down into my collarbone....

Im quite new on here and still trying to figure out the vast anatomy involved in TOS so im not sure of all the correct terminology!

Hi Linda and Tracey et al,

I have this too right now - with a lump just above my collarbone. Feel dizzy and weak, so stopped walking for a few days till it passes. I think it's time to go back to Denver for a followup.

Today I... am going to see a concert with my daughter and her bf. Missed this same show last year from a flare, so am doing all I can the last few days to be pain-free.

Peace to you all!
Anne
