I would highly recommend Dr. Molina in MN.
I read through some posts on here and saw people discussing treatment options, side effects, and recovery time. To be clear...Dr. Molina is literally writing books about new treatment options for TOS (his nurses gushed about him). In my case, which he claimed was one of the worst he's seen I had no permanent damage/side effects (other than two scars from surgery) and I recovered fully in 10 weeks. He's an old polite and funny man. He keeps trying to retire and then calls it off because he loves what he's doing too much. He's primarily a surgeon who specializes in TOS, but surgery may get bumped if he's called to do a heart transplant. When I was told that before my surgery, it put my nerves at ease as thoracic surgery should be childs play compared to a heart transplant in my opinion. Oh, and he doesn't believe in sending other docs in his stead. You get Molina, always...and he's damn protective. Heaven help my radiologist who crossed him, he made him apologize to each member of my family, to me, and to my nurse just for being extremely behind schedule. Best of luck to everyone's health. |

Where is Dr. Molina practicing in Minnesota? I live in Minnesota and ended up traveling to St. Louis for doctor and surgery since my primary care physician and I couldn't find anyone here. I sure would love to save the 9+ hour drive time and hotel costs for a doctor closer to home! Please share! ![]() |

Just as an update to the list-
Maryland: Dr Avaraam Karas has retired. As an aside, I don't know if people have any positive experiences with him, but I thought he was terrible. He was one of my first specialists I was referred to when diagnosing my winged scapula and nerve symptoms. He immediately wanted to do rib resection with scalenectomy, no attempts at conservative treatment. When I asked if I could go back to my work doing rigging and climbing, he laughed and said "Little girls should not be doing silly things like climbing trees. You should think about becoming a ballerina!" (i'm a 30yo, 5'3", climber/weight lifter, decidedly unfeminine...) He expanded by telling me every member of his staff had the surgery and was very happen, and suggested I learn how to sew, but warned me the surgery would make my winged scapula causing the brachial compression worse. When I asked about conservative treatments he told me to leave and come back when "I was ready to get serious" and wrote on my medical records I was non-compliant. Luckily.. he retired a week after my visit. |

I called Dr. Karas's office at about 1pm on Feb. 18, 2015 and he has not yet retired (but is thinking about it).
Sorry that your experience with Dr. Karas was negative. I have met with him twice and had good experiences. There are numerous positive reviews for Dr. Karas both on this website and other medical review boards. I guess for Dr. Karas (and other doctors) YMMV (your mileage may vary). |
