Default Phonophoresis

Phonophoresis

Medicines contained within or applied under the ultrasound gel are pushed by the sound waves of the ultrasound and driven deep below the skin. Medications administered through Phonophoresis can penetrate the body at a much deeper level than those massaged by hand over the surface of the skin. Other medications, such as oral pain killers and anti-inflammatory medicines, can take a significant amount of time to issue pain relief. Even then the pain relief effects may not reach the injured area or could potentially affect the entire body (including the brain, heart, and lungs). With Phonophoresis, the part of the body that receives the medication is the precise part of the body that needs it.

Phonophoresis usually uses small and weak doses of medicine, so the side effects and chance of building a tolerance are low. Since the medicine is applied locally, the results are often comparable to a higher dose of anti-inflammatory medication.
