Hello! I received a diagnosis of TOS today after having years of symptoms. I had a scalene block done on Friday and the relief was amazing. I'm not sure what type of TOS I have yet but I have been referred to Dr Kaj Johansen of the
Vascular Institute of the Northwest in Seattle and was wondering if anyone on here has been to see him. |

Hi! I saw him once about 3 to 4 years ago. For some reason, I didn't have to wait the 3+ months to see him. Hopefully, your wait isn't too long. He felt my vascular issues were secondary to another injury which has since been repaired. I was glad he didn't immediately suggest surgery. Since then, I have developed TOS on this side and I am currently being treated for TOS. I have had the other rib removed and so far (keeping fingers crossed), the operated side is doing good.

Thank you. I made my appointment today and will be going in to see him on Feb 7th. Do you mind if I ask who did your surgery?

Wow! you only need to wait a few weeks. It definitely was a 3+ month wait for me had my situation not been considered urgent for vascular reasons. I'm not sure how my PCP was able to get me so quickly rather than wait 3 months. My surgeon for the right side was Dr. Ombrellaro. I see him in a few weeks regarding the left side.

Hi Bronwyn2, I am very interested in knowing how your visit went and what your outcome was. Did you end up needing surgery? I am currently in the same position you were. Going to see Dr Johansen to confirm TOS diagnosis. But I can't get in until December. I haven't had any type of block yet. But have had horrible pain and other symptoms for several years now. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I just joined this forum so i'm not sure how and if I can contact you via email. |

My visit with him went very well. I REALLY liked him and his staff. I ended up having surgery and it went really well. I have a small amount of sporadic pain left but it is so much better that I don't really mind it much. It initially took me about that long to get into see him also, but I had my surgery 3 weeks later. Every doctor that I have seen for other things asks who did my surgery and they always tell me how fantastic Dr Johansen is. Best of luck! I will PM you my email address in case you have any other questions if you would like. |
