Thank you so much for your kind words! I should probably say that I think the weights are very light She was just using 1 lb weights, so it probably isn't much more than that

I'm really excited though about her progress. It is so hard to see your child in pain. I am hoping and praying that in a year, this will be just a faint memory!

It is so good to hear from you. i hope you are doing well! Take care and God Bless.

I am so grateful for all my friends here

I saw Dr Thompson today and the Chris Carpenter story was the buzz around his office. Dr Thompson was all over the St Louis news last night so I am hoping some of the clips will appear online. I can only imagine that recovery for him would be intense even if he is surrounded by lots of medical professionals.

Default Followup with Dr. Pearl

Hi all, Sorry I haven't been here in a while. I've been busy with work and pt. Thanks TOS mom for reaching out. I had my two month followup with Dr. Pearl on Friday, and I mentioned I'm still having some pain in the right side (I had a double rib resection and scalenetomy in the left side.) He didn't seem concerned and said it may take a while for my nerves to "wake up." I told him that if we're going to remove the right side, that financially I need to have it done by July and he said he'd like to see me in April again and by then we should know whether or not I need the right side done. I've been really happy with the progress on my left side, but I've still had some flare ups (which my pt attributes to pushing too hard and stepping up the weights in our exercises.) and when I say stepping up the weight, I mean using 1lbers

I also talked to him about Chris Carpenter and told him how bummed I was. He said he hadn't talked to him, but he was interested to talk to him because CC made it through the surgery fine and pitched great in the winter. Pearl said he talked to CC after the post season and he said he wasn't in pain then, he just pitched poorly because he was not in shape from not training all offseason. CC had a number of other surgeries previous to the rib resection and apparently had a nerve damaged in one of them. Pearl thinks he may be back.

Romans, I think your situation with Pearl is strange and I haven't been reading all the threads for a while. You've tried his office and his cell? So weird. Try talking to his office manager, Liza, and see if maybe she could get to him.

Default 11 week appointment

Hello all. Took my daughter to see Dr Pearl for her 2 month appointment and everything went great! I'm so excited. He asked how she was doing and she said great. He asked about her pain. She said she didn't have any pain or numbness. He asked if she was getting back to normal and she said yes. He looked at her incisions, felt the pulse in both arms, and listened to her lungs. He said that he was releasing her today!!! He said that he didn't need to see her back unless she had some problems!! We were in shock. I thought for sure that we would have to keep going back until the 1 year mark. But don't get me wrong....I'm very excited about not having to make that drive. What a miracle.....an answer to lots and lots of prayers. I will continue to check back here to update as time goes on. Thank you all for everything. I really appreciate everyone here on this forum. Hope everyone has a great rest of their week.

Default 4 months on Friday!

Hello all! Just wanted to update you on my daughter this Friday will be 4 months since her surgery. She is doing great! she never has pain! She is still numb around her incisions, but other than that, everything is going really well.

Yesterday she called me and told me that she thought she had broken her foot! (While she was playing dodgeball) So we go to the ER and she did break her foot and has to be in a boot and use crutches for a while. Of course the first thing that I thought of was the crutches will make her shoulder hurt. I texted Dr Pearl and he said to just be careful not to put too much pressure or stress on the armpit or shoulder. Hopefully she won't. I swear, if it's not one thing it's another!

Hope everyone is doing well and feeling great!

What made you decide on Dr. Pearl? Did you speak with him by phone?

Did you choose Dr. P over all of the California surgeons for the supraclavicular rib resection approach? I remember we discussed this a while back.

I'm an example of how additional surgery can be necessary with the transaxillary rib resection (although you can still redevelop scarring after supraclavicular rib resection).
