I had a first rib resection earlier this year but was not recovering actually was getting worse so my surgeon who did the surgery who I really like sent me for. More tests, angiogram and a doppler altrosound, after the test the radiolist at the hospital surgeon called me to get my but back in as they needed to talk with them, so I did my test showed my subclavein artery is being completely pinched off plus pinching on my thoracic nerve bundle but here is the bad part the surgeon who did my last surgery removed the wrong rib and muscle

How on earth did something like that happen?

HOLY COW!!!!
i'm so sorry this has happened to you!!! This is why many of us suggest going to a surgeon who has done the rib resection procedure hundreds of times and thus will be prepared for anomalies and just plain extra parts or parts in the wrong location. My first attempt at rib resection ended up going bad like your procedure, This surgeon was a top notch heart/lung transplant doc. But when he got inside and saw how close everything is in this area, and how MANY structures there are to be avoided... after 4 hours with my arm in a metal clamp... he decided to close me up and do nothing. Left quite a mess in there that had to be corrected by Dr. Annest in Denver. I have a good suggestion: select yourself a Denver doc or other closer doc from the sticky list at the top of this forum. Tell him what happened, and let new doc deal with old doc. And you should NOT have to pay 1 dime for this first surgery. Hang in there rad, we're all rooting for you to get the best care available! Anne

So sorry to hear about what you are going through! was your surgery done by a surgeon with some TOS experience? Where in Canada are you, I am in Toronto recovering but had my surgery in Denver. The only surgeon I know of here is Dr Roche Nagel and he isn't very experienced.

so sorry to hear. Healing is slow from one surgery let alone twice. With my recent surgery found out last surgeon left a little of the first rib for the second surgeon to remove. But I pray for you to have better luck this go round.

Can you consult with some lawyers, to find out about any possible lawsuit with compensation for stress, RSD & surgery pain & suffering?
![]() The RSD is a biggie.. that can be a lifelong & painful condition. Sounds like some sort of medical malpractice.. surgeons must make sure they are doing the right thing when they operate on someone. Proving the RSD happening due to the first surgery might be difficult, but if you were generally healthy and didn't have any treatment for it previously & have some high rated drs agreeing that it is RSD. I don't know how medical lawsuits are handled in Canada.. ![]()
