Hi, has anyone had surgery with Dr. Freishlag and what were your results?

I have had TOS for nearly a decade and will be seeing Dr. Freishlag soon. I suspect I will be a surgery candidate. Any details on your experience would be helpful.

Use the forum search function for "Freishlag". She studied under Hugh Gelabert at UCLA and I believe is now chief of Vascular Surgery at Johns Hopkins.

Thanks Marc. I was just trying to see if anyone has actually had thoracic outlet surgery with Dr. Freishlag and their experiences. I am new to this bulletin board so any advice is much appreciated!

Im only going to post on this subject once. But I really hope you take my advice! RUN for the hills!!!!! And quickly!! She is NOT a dr you want doing your surgery. She WILL butcher you! And she then will have no remorse for doing so! She will tell you that you just need more PT or excersise, but when you continue to get worse and worse and you cant go back to work, she then will say oh your the rare 5 paitents ive had, even though I know more then 5 of her paitents that have been butcherd by her. Then she will say oh you just fell in the 1% of paitents that dont get better. Really?! And then she will completly write you off because she doesnt want you ruining her great research. Oh and your notes will not have 1 single complaint in them because she has to keep everything perfect. So while my 1 arm is hardley usable anymore, and my ribs feel like a vise grip, and my chest kills me like a knife is going in and out all the the time, and your armpit has a deep boring pain because most likely everything she cut threw she didnt repair and theres so much nerves and muscle threw there that you have to cut threw. And she will say she is the best of the best! That shes 1# on doing the surgeries and how succesful they are. She will tell you that you have so much blockage in your vein or artery, she will even tell that your rare. But once the complications happen, your screwed and I had to go to a diffrent hospital for a surgoen to look at me and he couldnt believe all the damage that was done and he said he could have done more surgery but he didnt feel that odds were in my favor do to all the damage from her that was done. So I am dead serous when I say RUN! Dr Donahue in Boston is a great man and I had sevral phone conversations with him, i would suggest you go see him if you can get to him. I saw her and was sent to the pain doctor for a scalene block and then botox. None of the apts were set up. I had to end up scheduling everything on my own. At the pain clinic you will see residents - the actual doctor will spend no time with you. She told me he was the best and would get to the bottom of the pain issues. I drove 3 hrs on 3 different occasions and was given nothing for pain relief. He was the most uncaring, insensitive doctor I have ever seen. I was not offered anything different than I can get locally. No cutting edge treatment like was sold to me. He then tried to push me off on another doctor and when I called to set up that apt. they told me that doctor didn't treat TOS! I figured if I got the shuffle without surgery, what would happen if I had the surgery and then complications? I now have an apt set up with Dr. Donahue. This was a nightmare experience for me which only added to more stress and upset. I have also heard from others that they were pushed out when complications occurred.

This info is good to know for those in the future.

I was referred to Dr. Avraam Karas at Good Samaritan in Baltimore. I was extremely impressed by his thoroughness in reviewing symptoms and then explaining the surgery in detail with taking time to answer every last question. The same detail to " the patient is first" was shown again on Monday, surgeryday. He whole team came into pte- op to talk to me and my family and answer each question and ones we had not thought of.

I have to have my right side done later and even thought I'm not looking forward to more surgery; the way my family & I were treated by Dr. Karas in addition to the high praises the nursing staff gave him...I will not be frightened this time around.
